04.07.10 | Haha, I know right.
You must admit, this is a pretty good list of shit to check out for kids who aren't really into the genre though. |
iamSeraph
04.07.10 | this list is pretty much oldschool only and if I had to make a guess I would say you are around 40 years old ,) it's nonetheless very good, but maybe listen to some good newschool stuff, dude :)
ABR - constellations, mis sigs - controller, this or the apocalypse - monuments, parkway drive - killing with a smile, bleed the sky - paradigm in entropy, for the fallen dreams - changes, the ghost inside - fury and the fallen ones, maybe catherine - rumor has it: astaroth has stolen your eyes / AILD - frail words collapse / neaera - the rising tide of oblivion, too. |
Asiatic667
04.07.10 | Needs emmure |
Volt2187
04.07.10 | iamSeraph:
No, he just decided to include metalcore that is good, hence why you dont see any of the bands you listed on it. |
ThePalaceOfWisdom
04.07.10 | A Mappy does metalcore list is about 800x better than the other ones people post on here. In fact with the exception of 29 I like every album on here. |
Mordecai.
04.07.10 | Mostly good shit. Good choice for the Underoath album. Taylor, 29 rules wtf? |
NeutralThunder12
04.07.10 | I wouldnt call all of these essential. 2 isn't their best, 1 isn't their best (yep, I said it), 14 is by far the best on here. |
Deviant.
04.07.10 | 28 puts me to sleep |
TheNewWhack
04.07.10 | As far as 11 goes, Ley Lines is a much better album. Props for including them though. |
ThePalaceOfWisdom
04.07.10 | Tom poison the well are everything I don't like about the genre. Bad cleans, monotone screams and way too many juns. |
Mordecai.
04.07.10 | Fair enough. I can see that on their debut, but i still love it. You Come Before You is in a league of it's own though, have you heard that album? |
ThePalaceOfWisdom
04.07.10 | I've heard all of their albums and I'm left with the urge to break into their homes and grind glass shards into their food in the hope that they stop recording. Also I'm going to laugh at progmaster calling TSC the best here when the first 5 albums forcefully rape it to hell. |
theacademy
04.07.10 | so much non-metalcore on this list... just because the albums are good doesn't mean u need to commend their inclusion... never thought id say list fails because it DOES include DEP or BTBAM.. |
Mordecai.
04.07.10 | Hahaha Progmaster is such a douche. |
qwe3
04.07.10 | neutralthunder stfu this list is better than you |
sspedding
04.07.10 | lots of nostalgia in this list |
Mordecai.
04.07.10 | and lots of idiocy in the comments (ie progmaster) |
heyadam
04.07.10 | Its definitely missing Alive or Just Breathing by Killswitch Engage....that album reshaped the metalcore sound |
ThePalaceOfWisdom
04.07.10 | No it didn't. |
heyadam
04.07.10 | uhm I'm going to go ahead and say yes it did |
Mordecai.
04.07.10 | But it didn't. Look it up. |
ThePalaceOfWisdom
04.07.10 | You can say it as much as you want but it's still wrong. |
heyadam
04.07.10 | Do you realize how many metalcore bands follow the song-writing formula of that album now? You hear it all of these metalcore bands formed after 2002 |
ThePalaceOfWisdom
04.07.10 | You realise that formula is exactly the fucking same as the one on Opposite Of December? |
Inveigh
04.07.10 | ^I'm going to have to agree with that completely. Unless you want to say it was The Opposite of December instead. Don't give me Hopesfall, it's not the same. |
Mordecai.
04.07.10 | I fucking love Hopesfall |
Inveigh
04.07.10 | god damnit late comment. yeah, it was on TOoD, Killswitch just polished it and put more of an emphasis on metal. |
ThePalaceOfWisdom
04.07.10 | I've never said Hopesfall sound anything like jun-core. But that argument is tired. Also I'd say there a number of bands from around the same period who had chug riffs and cleans. The point being that KSE never did anything to change metalcore beyond being one of the first jun-jun bands to get popular among teenagers. |
heyadam
04.07.10 | ok point taken, you need to chill the fuck out though. And that formula didn't didn't catch on with other metalcore bands until AFTER AOJB......so as far as essential, yes, AOJB was essential....someone would've done something like it eventually that would've caught on at some point, but not at the same time period and probably without the same effect |
Inveigh
04.07.10 | so they're the Nirvana of metalcore? I'll go with that. |
Mordecai.
04.07.10 | List needs Nirvana |
heyadam
04.07.10 | haha not how I would've put it but they are kind of like the Nirvana of metalcore. Good call. And Shadows Fall, Lamb of God, Every Time I Die, In Flames, God Forbid, As I Lay Dying, Unearth, All That Remains, Chimaira, and Soilwork have all said that that album re-defined the genre |
Inveigh
04.07.10 | no offense, but half of those bands aren't even metalcore haha. I'd say it's more likely that album redefined (or fuck, even defined) METAL in the 2000s, which was highly influenced by the late 90s and early 2000s metalCORE scene. |
heyadam
04.07.10 | none taken lol, that makes sense. I tend to think of metalcore as melodic hardcore. And that album is the epitome of that description. But good call |
IleftyspankedU
04.07.10 | Wow! You guys sure get passionate about these indie/underground/early metalcore bands. I wanna check 'em all out cause all I know is 14, 25, 28, 29 & 30. I didn't jump on the bandwagon til KSE's end of heartache (I know, pop-metalcore). Alive of Just Breathing didn't grow on me until a year or so after that. I know all those from iamSeraph's list above. Maybe cause I've always liked albums that sound good/full on my stereo (ie. high production value). If that makes me uncool, I already knew that. I'm spending my time here instead of interacting with people. |
Inveigh
04.07.10 | yeah, there's no better way to get flamed on this site than to make a metalcore list that is full of either newer bands, or just bands that are on the more metal side of the spectrum. It's also a good way to mess with Palace. |
heyadam
04.07.10 | KsE's new album just terrible, I was quite disappointed. But AOJB is a classic modern metal album, and I guess its not "core" enough for sputnik, oh well.... |
ThePalaceOfWisdom
04.07.10 | Being a gay cunt doesn't mess with me, it just makes you a gay cunt. |
Inveigh
04.07.10 | ^see what I mean?
btw, is gay cunt really a thing? or did one of your "room mates" tell you that |
heyadam
04.07.10 | I wasn't trying to start anything palace, I just thought that AOJB was a good definition of modern metal. And like I said earlier, I guess it just isn't "core" enough. |
Inveigh
04.07.10 | hey, adam, it's hard to argue with a guy who calls himself "ThePalaceOfWisdom." Plus, word on the street is he has a massive napoleon complex. |
heyadam
04.07.10 | point taken, I don't even want to argue but people decide to start shit anyways. I just like talking about music, and getting other opinions (there IS a difference). lol |
WolfGuts
04.07.10 | Drowning man album should be rock n roll killing machine. Don't touch is when we hot was a sort of a come back album for them and it's not as good as previous works. Why can't zao be on this list. Where blood and fire bring rest was huge infulence. |
intothepit83
04.07.10 | hey, did you all know that palace is corey from Boy Meets World? Just look at my profile picture. It's proof!!!!! |
Thor
04.07.10 | incorrect Botch album but you should already know that lol |
theacademy
04.07.10 | wow this thread exploded |
Inveigh
04.07.10 | it's a metalcore list, what did you expect? |
intothepit83
04.07.10 | theacademy wouldn't know good music if it came across his face and blinded him |
Inveigh
04.07.10 | well, on one hand he likes Brand New and The Gaslight Anthem, but on the other hand he likes Hollywood Undead and Limp Bizkit. Ya win some, ya lose some. |
intothepit83
04.07.10 | listen, if you still like limp bizkit in ur 20's and think atreyu's still at the forefront of "good" american metal/metalcore, all your opinions and comments mean nothing |
intothepit83
04.07.10 | motocross: it's 27 year old perennial adolescent. and i take that as a compliment
|
Inveigh
04.07.10 | don't forget inveigh: the repetitive voice of reason / ptw groupie |
intothepit83
04.07.10 | it's not my fault that i still find fart and dick jokes funny |
theacademy
04.07.10 | i just read motocross's last reply and lol'd hard.

Yeahtoast
04.07.10 | Adam is right, Alive Or Just Breathing needs to be on any list of this vain |
Yeahtoast
04.07.10 | And As I Lay Dying |

04.07.10 | ^NO!!!!! |
Zipzop5565
04.07.10 | Don't Listen to Metalcore |
witchxrapist
04.07.10 | TheAcademy, you are a retard who clearly has no clue what the fuck hardcore sounds like. Every single album on this list is metalcore, learn to play.
@iamSeraph: I'm 21 haha, I just really like metalcore.
And like, I like ABR, For The Fallen Dreams, and The Ghost inside, but none of them are really anything new or stand out. |
Emim
04.07.10 | Basically:
OMG HE INCLUDED ALL TEH CLASHICS OF TEH METALCORE GENRE. 7331!!!
or
OMG HE DIDN'T INCLUDE THE MODERN MAINSHTREAM CLASHICS! FAILZ!
Anyone disliking newer stuff, just because it makes them look worse in front of their highly important sputnik peer group, is an idiot. And anyone not willing to check out the older stuff is also an idiot. |

04.07.10 | Emim just ether'd pit boss.
@witchxrapist "TheAcademy, you are a retard who clearly has no clue what the fuck hardcore sounds like. Every single album on this list is metalcore, learn to play."
hardcore =/= metalcore. you fail. |
witchxrapist
04.08.10 | ....
Where did I say hardcore and metalcore are the same thing?
Regardless, I grew up on hardcore, I know what hardcore sounds like, and I can definitely hear strong elements of hardcore in every single album I listed.
And you know, like, in order for a band to be classified as metalcore they have to like... play metallic hardcore... |
Emim
04.08.10 | "Emim just ether'd pit boss."
Wait, what? Is that a good thing or a bad thing? |

04.09.10 | Coatrack. |

04.09.10 | No Zao? Whaaaaa? |
witchxrapist
04.09.10 | Eh, Zao's pretty essential ya, but I'm not into them aside from the first few albums, so they don't make the cut srry. |
JWT155
04.09.10 | To each his own, pretty nice list regardless. |
witchxrapist
04.09.10 | Thanks I guess? the fact that I've been listening to this type of music for a decade straight is kind of embarrassing hahaha. |

04.09.10 | Great list! |
