| Stuff I've Been Digging (since It's Been Three Years)

Pulmonary Archery

Selkies: The Endless Obsession
The first time I heard this song, all I could think was, "fuck, why is it ripping off the synth in Tom Sawyer by Rush?" But now that I've [finally] gotten into BTBAM, it's turned into a classic, switching up styles, and I love the technicality this band possesses. | | 3 | Electric President
The Violent Blue
This is more of a recent love, but it's an absolutely beautiful song. Considering I've listened to this song more than a majority of the songs in my library, in less than a month, I'd list this. | | 4 | Thursday
In Silence
I love Thursday, and I love instrumentals, so what goes better than both put together? Originally heard as a demo/snippet on their Kill the House Lights cd, I was pleasantly surprised to hear the same intro as a song on the Thursday/Envy split. Signs
Intimacy and Intimacy [Remixed] are actually the only full albums by Bloc Party that I own, and when I originally heard this song I thought it was a lot different than any of the stuff I've heard from them before. Not in a bad way, of course, but this was definitely one of the prettiest, for the lack of a better word, and most heartbreaking songs I've ever heard. | | 6 | The Widow
As Cities Burn
My obsession for this song has died down immensely from when I first discovered it, but I figured it was notable enough in my music history from the past two years to include it. The vocals in the song, towards the climax, still give me chills. | | 7 | Crime in Stereo
Small Skeletal
I could have listed many other songs that could qualify for Crime in Stereo, but since I'm trying to keep it to one song per band, on this list, I chose Small Skeletal because, if not for this song, I probably wouldn't even be listening to Crime in Stereo. Amnesty Please

Bedroom Galaxy
This band is basically Saosin on acid. Definitely a more recent love, as it's a more recent album, but as a whole this band writes some great material. The vocals are insane. | | 10 | Silversun Pickups
Rusted Wheel
I never hear anybody talk about this song, which is a shame, because I think it's probably the strongest track on Carnavas. With great instrumentals and great build up, this song is probably, the single handed reason for me picking up a bass and learning to play it. | | 11 | Radiohead
All I Need
It's Radiohead. I know I could list a million other songs for a million other reasons, but In Rainbows is the first album I got into. Yes, a bit late on the bandwagon, but this song is absolutely beautiful and holds a lot of personal value for me. | | 12 | As Tall As Lions
Where Do I Stand?

First Breath After Coma
Probably the first legitimate Post-Rock song I have ever heard, which has now grown into a beautiful appreciation and love for the genre. As a whole, their album All of A Sudden, I Miss Everyone, ranks higher in my opinion, but if it hadn't been for First Breath After Coma, I probably wouldn't even listen to their later work. | | 15 | Forgive Durden

Where Have You Been?
After months of listening to some friends talk about them, I finally gave Manchester a listen, and I must say that they are great. Immense depth both musically and lyrically keep me coming back to them, and are, currently to this date, the only band that I've ever been to see, on a non-local basis. | | 18 | Pianos Become the Teeth
All Children Make Mistakes
While most of this band's material is a modern, reminiscent version of Saetia, this song is different in the sense that it's instrumental and heavily resembles/imitates post rock. I love the band's other material as well, but this song hits close to home. | | 19 | Saetia
Venus and Bacchus
For until about a month after my grandmother passed away, this is literally all I listened to. Not this song in particular, but the band as a whole. Despite the bat-screams and unprofessional production, I think this band put out some good songs in their time, which was, IMO, definitely ahead of their time. | | 20 | The Smiths

Mean Low Water
Sometimes their songs make me feel like I'm having a seizure, but this album is a very technical, crazy electronic version of post rock, from what I can collect. | | 22 | Set Your Goals
Echoes
Another one of those songs that, it's been a while since I've really listened to, but all I have to say is that this is probably one of the best, newer pop punk bands that I've had the pleasure of listening to in the past few years. Transatlanticism
I think this list would be incomplete without mentioning Death Cab. After several, several years (literally since eighth grade) of being told that I needed to listen to them, I finally did. As a young high school-er, I wasn't really impressed by the particular songs I HAD seen on FUSE, but an ex of mine made me sit down and listen to them. And for a while, I absolutely could not listen to this song, or album after the break up, despite how much I had grown to like it. Now I can, and now I can appreciate how good it is. | | 24 | Deas Vail
Dance in Perfect Time
Overall, I always thought they were a lovely band, but until their newest album, Birds & Cages was released, I never got REALLY into them. I think if sheer happiness were condensed into song form, this would be it. | | 25 | The New Frontiers
Mirrors
I love many bands and have many songs of mine that consist of favorites, but this list would be absolutely incomplete if I failed to mention this song. Over the past couple of years, this is probably the one song that consistently stuck to me as a favorite of mine, as it is a complete symbolization of hope towards the future, for myself. If you haven't listened to it, I would really recommend that you do. By means of technicality and instrumentality, it's probably not the best song in the world, but I personally find it very inspiring and uplifting. | |

I know they're not similar, as a whole, but the one part in the beginning of Selkies reminded me of Tom Sawyer.
If it makes you feel any better, I like BTBAM more than I'll probably ever like Rush. |
