06.02.11 | One of the most interesting lists i seen |
PistolPete
06.02.11 | This is a great list, but wow I don't think I've seen anyone on this site rave about 3OH!3 before lol, it'll be interesting to see how others react when they see them on this list. Not a band I would put alongside Gorillaz and Dr. Dre |
CrownOfMagnets
06.02.11 | this list is alright i guess |
dreamobile
06.02.11 | i know some pretty bad bands get the post-hardcore tag slapped on around here, but 3OH!3? Really? that's a new low |
DeathByDaydream
06.02.11 | definitely know what you mean with the whole waiting for the soft sections when listening to btbam. |
steadyriot
06.02.11 | about 3oh3- post-hardcore is probably the wrong classification, but im not sure if emo or scene is a genre so i figure its closest to that. Also 3oh3 was interesting to me because I didn't like rap at that point, mainly because of the repetitive beats and how rappers just used tracks random people made for them like pop stars. 3oh3 was fairly unique at the time, and i really liked how they self produced all thier tracks. They were basically making fun music for people to have fun with while making fun of what they are now associated with. Thier newest cd is shit.
Deathbydaydream - yeah the song 'Sun of Nothing' is the best example for me. the slow part is amazing, the fast part is kinda bland, but you need to hear the fast part to get to and appreciate the slow part. The reason I gave Radiohead a second chance was to have the slow part for the whole song. |
FromDaHood
06.02.11 | This is really interesting. Good show. |
johnholly1039
06.02.11 | 5, 6 |
dimsim3478
06.02.11 | Awesome list. |
Trebor.
06.02.11 | 16 shouldn't be anywhere near 18, 19, and 23. |
Eko
06.02.11 | pretty cool list |
Powerban
06.02.11 | 6 rules all the way through. |
Asiatic667
06.02.11 | most interesting list i've seen in ages. You put a lot of time into it.
Hybrid Theory is always pretty enjoyable even now, in fact its quite popular on sputnik, unlike most other nu metal |
Tarnished
06.02.11 | Nice list |
coneren
06.02.11 | i listen to kid a when i get to er |
steadyriot
06.02.11 | Asiatic667 - Thanks, it took a decent amount of time but most it was just being bored at work. Yeah Hybrid Theory is still a good listen, the only downside about it is all the crap knockoffs that followed which pretty much coincided with never listening to the radio again. |
scissorlocked
06.02.11 | no non-metal music is allowed at ages 13-18
|
Liberi Fatali
06.02.11 | Cool list, nice to see some thought went into it. |
Loanshark
06.02.11 | 3 and 5 were big at my school too, and where some of the earliest stuff I listened to, so I'll always have a spot for them I guess. |
RadioheadSucks
06.02.11 | List needs Taylor Swift |
Deviant.
06.02.11 | Good list, though I'm saddened that LCD were the group that made you decide to take electronic music more seriously (even though that is a good album) |
clercqie
06.02.11 | See a lot of myself in this list. Especially with 4 and 5.
Also Dev, what do you mean by saddened? How come? |
Mordecai.
06.02.11 | "I was introduced to the world of melody based music (as opposed to talent based)"
ahh yess because green day and alien ant farm posses far more talent than pink floyd |
Deviant.
06.02.11 | LCD, for the most part, are terrible. I can't fault someone for liking electronic music though :) |
clercqie
06.02.11 | I saw the live stream of their 4hour last show in Madison Square Garden and it was effing amazing, tbh.
I wouldn't classify them purely as electronic music anyways. |
steadyriot
06.02.11 | Deviant - Do you have any recs for someone who likes LCD to get some deeper electronic stuff? I know you have a ton of lists, but theyre pretty broad.
Mordecai- Yeah the time frame isn't exactly perfect for that part. I meant that it would later be important because for a while I would only listen to music with good guitar parts and guitar solos. Even if a song was awful, if it had a good solo I would listen to it. As I Lay Dying was the first metal band without really good guitarists I liked, which later lead to me to like other genres that I brushed off because they didnt have guitar solos. The order isn't perfect though
clercqie - I really wanted to go to that show but mustve hit refresh 5 seconds too late on ticketmaster cause it was soldout by the time i filled out the form. yeah theyre not straight electronic, but they have a ton of electronic influences and the singer's record label signs a lot of electronic acts. theyre kinda their own thing though |
clercqie
06.02.11 | Yup, that's what I find cool about them, the mish-mash of influences. If you like LCD, try any Hot Chip album and Soulwax - Any Minute Now. Those are very similar in my opinion.
|
steadyriot
06.02.11 | Yeah same. I really like the two Hot Chip albums I have- havent heard of Soulwax though, ill check that one out. |
Yotimi
06.02.11 | Check out Matthew Dear - Asa Breed for some LCDish stuff |
Psychopathologist

demigod!
06.02.11 | Never thought I'd see Streetlight, Radiohead, 3oh3 and Atreyu on the same list. huh. |
steadyriot
06.02.11 | Yeah, from the line 'music a steady riot in my soul'. Figured it was fitting for sites like this |
gosk8n
06.03.11 | Nice list although some of these bands I dont care to much about but this is interesting though to see what influences you |
telebyrd
06.03.11 | Dude, POTUSA is so much fun. You only liked 3 tracks? How about, Dune Buggy, We're Not Gonna Make It, Naked and Famous, Back Porch, Body? Not to mention the hits. |
Douglas
06.03.11 | i remember back in the day these list were like the thing to do.
in saying that, i enjoy reading them! |

06.03.11 | cool list. Some good shit there too. |
steadyriot
06.03.11 | thanks, yeah this list was tons of fun to make and im glad people actually liked reading it.
telebryd- I really like Were not Gonna Make it and remember thinking Dune Buggy was alright. I think Ill give that album another listen, it seems to be pretty highly regarded on this site. Maybe i just wasnt ready for it at the time haha |
JWT155
06.03.11 | Really well done list man, great read and kinda reminds me how my tastes have evolved. Sputnik needs more quality lists like this. |
Acanthus
06.03.11 | Right with you on 1, 3, 4, and 10 thought I was older when I listened to them. |
climactic
06.03.11 | 16? what the fuck |
botb
06.04.11 | 16 really is so bad |
Yazz_Flute
06.04.11 | 2 was coincidentally also the first album I bought. I went through an early 5 and 15 phrase as well. |
toxin.
06.04.11 | I think this is actually a really fucking cool list. Job well done. Cool list, too. |
PearlDrummer20
06.04.11 | What you said for Radiohead is excatly what i thought when i first heard when i was 14 |
AmericnZero02
06.04.11 | Really cool list, steadyriot. Definitely an interesting read. I'm gonna have to sit down and figure out my musical lineage one of these days. |
steadyriot
06.05.11 | thanks (almost) everyone. yeah, its fun to look back and think of how each new band you heard moved you onto the next one. |
climactic
06.05.11 | i'll prob do this list soon |
North0House2
06.06.11 | I hate 16 with a passion. I'm ashamed that 3Oh3! uses my area code as their band name. |
NigelH
06.06.11 | "I thought OK Computer was boring the first time I heard it, thinking only Paranoid Andoid was "okay"
lol, same reaction i had the first time i heard it. list es interesante |
Parallels
06.06.11 | whoa, the list went from 8th grader to 9th grader to mature teen in just 24 albums! |
steadyriot
06.06.11 | atleast you got the cool hand sign you can do when telling people your phone number haha |
omnipanzer
06.06.11 | I honestly don't think 1 should be anywhere near such a list js. |
Knott-
06.08.11 | I like this list because it's clear you're not making anything up. It's very subtle and quite arbitrary when albums actually influence your tastes. |
steadyriot
06.08.11 | Yeah I completely agree. I left most of the really small stuff like moving through classic rock and metal of the list just so it wouldn't be 100 albums long. |
sportsboy
06.09.11 | damn
american idiot brings back first 1st grade memories |
TechieCore
06.10.11 | #11 pretty much was the soundtrack to my high school years. |
JimmyPop
06.10.11 | I'm happy there's someone else giving Alien Ant Farm some credit. I've been a huge fan for years and, even though they only got so famous because of that cover, they're a terribly underrated band. |
octothegreat
06.10.11 | really interesting list, i may write something like this down for myself |
steadyriot
06.10.11 | Yeah AAF's first album is great all the way through, its a shame no one got into anything besides Smooth Criminal.
You should make it, its pretty fun to think about and walk through everything |
sportsboy
06.11.11 | s.s. recognize is my shit! |
TheBuzzKiller
07.16.11 | 3oh!3 is a guilty pleasure lmao, saw them yesterday at warped it was kinda fun(ny) |
Leatherneck

Scoot
07.16.11 | i was expecting to see the usual pattern of sum 41 > metallica > children of bodom > opeth > converge |
Brontosaurus
07.16.11 | this is such a good wish. it kind of follows my musical journey |
