Metal Ain't Dead Yet...

I know that the extreme metal genre is far past its prime, and it seems so hard lately to just find a good release with all the sell outs and copy cats. Here is a list of releases from the past five years (2006 -2011) that give me a little bit of hope for the future. I know some of these bands are no longer together, but it's just nice to see some innovation in this day and age.
1Arghoslent
Hornets of the Pogrom

This band, though uncomfortably racist, make some excellent heavy melodic death metal. This album, though pretty much a structural copy of Incorrigible Bigotry, had some new sounds and ideas incorporated in.
2Arsis
United in Regret

A fantastic fast-paced technical death metal album. It's too bad Arsis depicts themselves as a melodic death band. It draws the wrong crowd for their style.
3Atheist
Jupiter

Atheist came out of nowhere with the technical and ripping album. Their heaviest to date, it's really a great listen.
4Averse Sefira
Advent Parallax

Averse Sefira was one of the strongest bands through the 2000's, and this release didn't disappoint.
5Beherit
Engram

I don't think Beherit has ever released a bad album. Sure this isn't their best, but it is still a serious effort.
6Burzum
Belus

One of the best of all time, Burzum never fails to deliver the goods.
7Dead Congregation
Graves of the Archangels

One of the few recent upstart death metal bands that is worth a damn. A solid debut.
8Deicide
The Stench of Redemption

Consistently solid, Deicide has changed there sound just enough to keep from being stale, while remaining true to their roots.
9God Dethroned
Passiondale

One hell of a release from an overall midgrade band.
10Hate Eternal
Fury & Flames

This band has yet to release a bad album on five attempts. Phoenix is also strong.
11Jotunspor
Gleipnirs Smeder

Gorgoroth by a different name is still awesome.
12Mayhem
Ordo Ad Chao

While not their strongest release by a long shot, it's good to know Mayhem is still producing solid metal.
13 Mord
Necrosodomic Abyss

Improving on their debut album, Mord is a Norwegian black metal band trying to build on the sounds of the early 90's.
14Necrophobic
Hrimthursum

One of the few later releases from Necrophobic that you can actually tell from the others. While not perfect, at least it's unique.
15Necros Christos
Triune Impurity Rites

Necros Christos is an excellent newer metal band that has a very unique sound and style that they continue to progress and impress with.
16Nile
Those Whom The Gods Detest

While not a great album, at least Nile is still outputting some solid metal.
17Profanatica
Disgusting Blasphemies Against God

Easily my favorite black metal band of the past decade, Profanatica has a raw and powerful sound that just isn't matched by any other black metal act in recent history.
18Summoning
Oath Bound

Another classic band that just doesn't seem to be slowing down. This is actually one of their best releases, and late in their career.
19Triptykon
Eparistera Daimones

Another excellent recent start-up, mastering old school Celtic Frost style black metal while adding in elements of doom and new black to create a sound all their own.
20Year of No Light
Nord

This band creates a dark and bleak atmosphere with this unique release.
