Sufjan and Co. Go To Saturn

2017-03-27 by wtferrothorn | 31 Comments
Planetarium, a collaborative project including indie darling Sufjan Stevens, The National guitarist Bryce Dessner, classical composer Nico Muhly, and drummer James McAlister, was first debuted at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in 2013. Accompanied by a string quartet, the piece was presented over multiple days and featured many songs that revolved around the subject of the solar system.

Rumors of a studio release of this collaboration have been around since 2015, but they have now become a reality. A few days after a 45-second teaser, a studio album release of Planetarium has been announced to be released on June 9th via 4AD. Along with the announcement came a first taste of the 17-track space-themed concept record, the track "Saturn", which is now on all streaming services.

EDIT: You can now watch the official video for "Saturn" here:

Pleased Sufjan's doing something different to 'C&L' (he can and will return to folk later) and equally pleased Dessner is collecting ever more influences for the next National album

Album will be a solid 4, but I'm open to be impressed. I don't hold his side projects very high after Sisyphus.

Do we know if the rest of the tracks feature Sufjan as prominently as this one does? As is it doesn't really feel like a collaboration.
