Vocalist is still the bee's knees. The piano is killer. I strongly dislike the Imagine Dragons-esque radio top-50 electronic bits though.

I remember seeing an interview with Leighton when Devil came out where he talks about the artwork. he said something about how everyone was expecting another similar beautiful image, but he didn't want to play it safe and so he went another direction. I'm paraphrasing from memory, but yeah. I bet that same mindset has something to do with their sound change as well. nevertheless I'm stoked for this record.

and yeah Illuminate is the best ever

I could not agree more with the sentiment that parts of this sound heavily like imagine dragons. Which is a shame cuz it starts off strong. Personally i cant stand the ID vibes of that vocal shout. I liked their last album too. Illuminate will continue to overshadow everything Lydia does. And they never got a female vocalist who meshed so perfectly since Illuminate.

Took me ages to listen to anything else than Illuminate by these guys, despite that one being one of my favorite albums. It's just one of these cases where you know the band won't ever be able to capture that magic again. The albums surrounding it are cool but they didn't get to me nearly as much as that one.

One of my favourite ever bands, still listen to their first two albums almost weekly. I thought they lost it a bit around the Paint It Golden/Devil era (though there were a few great tracks among the reeds there), but Run Wild was really good. It felt like them figuring out how to make their new sound still have some of the melodic prettiness that their first albums had.

This new song sucks though. Really flat and boring. Hoping for better from the rest of the album.
