The long awaited first single from Ibaraki (formerly known as Mrityu) has finally been released. The black metal side project of Trivium frontman Matt Heafy, assisted by mentor Ihsahn, has been in the works for a number of years and while news of a full album is still pending, it is now official that it will be released via Nuclear Blast Records.

If the rest of the songs are as good as this it will be my favorite black metal inspired album of the last ten years easily.

I remember him saying he wanted this project to be about Norse mythology and his almighty mentor Ihsahn was like, that's over done son, why don't you write about something closer and more meaningful to you, and he was like, Japanese mythology it is

Considering the band has 3 guitarists between Matt, Nergal (Behemoth) and the guy from Emperor, I'd bet it's one of them.

That was definitely solid. Very cool of Matt to go in this direction.

Holy crap. I have legitimately been waiting for this since we first heard his intentions so many years ago. This is incredible.

pretty interesting; his harsh vocals would (obviously) fit a more hardcore aproach like Celeste better imo, but it's not bad at all

Really cool stuff. Matt Heafy is an amazing talent but until the most recent Trivium albums, I've never really enjoyed any of his music. It just lacked an identity, I guess.

There's an extraordinary amount of questionable stylistic decisions crammed into this single track. I kind of like the cleans even if they are reminiscent of modern male Evanescence.

Outside the vocals, there is some cool stuff going on. Those cleans are really bad though. That shit is even cornier than soilwork cleans. Harsh vocals are ok I guess

The clean vocals are really not well implemented into the mix or the instrumental. They're just there hanging above the riffs like they were imported from an entirely different song

Yeah, I really like when there are cleans in a otherwise straight BM or BM influenced song, like for example Ulver did on their debut album but I don't know about those harsh vocals - they totally fit to the music Trivium are playing but I don't know if they fit into this.. song still atleast instrumentally slaps

Ihsahn composed the Trivium intro tracks for the last 2-3 albums. They've been 'writing' this album for years apparently - trying to make a black metal album in Heafy's visage [mostly just dropping Emperor names as much as possible].
