Great folklore documentary, where's the song at though?
| |
World music 101. Where is the new song?
| |
Hmmm not really feeling it. Too upbeat for me, some Yacht Rock vibes here and there
| |
Uh what the fuck is this?
| |
Now I'm LOOOOOOOOOooooooosssssst
| |
Listen to it on Spotify guys
| |
"Listen to it on Spotify guys"
Wow...only 3 minutes, but makes my ears bleed.
| |
Sounds like music for a Cialis commercial with old people dancing and sitting in side by side tubs, staring at the beach.
| |
What year is it again
| |
Lmao RYM likes this
| |
Steely Mars
| |
"some Yacht Rock vibes here and there"
KEK, I wonder if that's Californians favorite music genre.
| |
I love these guys but this song is not the song to come back on.
| |
damn. this is disappointing
| |
This song is super on brand tbh, I’m not sure why you guys are shocked they leaned into some Latin jazz inspired shit
| |
It’s not the Latin jazz that’s weird. It’s how boring the song is. Literally nothing happens from beginning to end. It’s the same song at 10 seconds as it is at 2:55.
| |
Great song, great video, I bet diva would also love this.
| |
Yea I'm digging this, not understanding the hate here so much. I'm not bothered by the lack of an explosive climax or anything I'm just into the groove. Stoked the Latin vibes are back!
| |
good song
| |

Also hearing new Mars Volta makes me feel like 17 again, when I first discovered more experimental music. Glad to see these guys still around and making new stuff.
| |
“It’s how boring the song is. Literally nothing happens from beginning to end. It’s the same song at 10 seconds as it is at 2:55.”
This. So bland
| |
As long as it is a part of an album that gives the song better context, this is passable. Cannot stand on its own as a single though lol. Pretty boring.
| |
Not nearly as bad as most of y'all are making it sound, lol
| |
11 minutes...Mars Volta...yeah, no.
| |
The song isn't 11 minutes, the video is 11 minutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oybn7Sfsutc&ab_channel=TheMarsVolta-Topic
| |
The song isn't bad, it's just not TMVish so I think everyone is just like "hm".
| |
This is really good. I have no idea what all the bitching is about. Wait and see how it fits into the bigger scope of the album; I'm thinking this is another shorter, hookier track that fits in with something much more developed, but offers a good taste of the album's vibe. Think "The Widow" or "Wax Simulacra."
| |
Yeah, but "The Widow" goes hard regardless.
| |
Not what I was expecting but definitely enjoy the lazy summer latin vibes more than the lazy electronic rock vibes on Nocturni-whatever
| |
This is such a disagreeably haughty way to present a new song.
I'm not listening to 11min of crap for a 3min Mars Volta song.
And that prententious slo-motion. euah...
| |
> prententious
> The Mars Volta
Name a more iconic duo.
| |
“ This is such a disagreeably haughty way to present a new song.

I thought the same, but then I realised this is TMV
| |
Cedric’s melodies are cool, but it’s very low-key for a comeback
| |
yeah, it's not bad in a vacuum but this is The Mars Fucking Volta. def expected something more bombastic.
| |
"11min of crap for a 3min Mars Volta song"
lol what is wrong with all of you, the song is the first part of the video, the rest is not something you need to watch. The song is on its own on YouTube.
| |
> prententious
> The Mars Volta
Name a more iconic duo.[2]
I love their debut but that's a fucking fact
| |
Hope it turns out to be a good album, however, given Omar's output during the previous decade, I don't expect a great return to form.
| |
Love the MV but that song was very mid. Pleasant video though
Actually the bomba they were dancing to was pretty sick :o
| |
I mean realistically TMV sucks at transitions most of the time so shorter song lengths might help them out hahaha
| |
eh reminds me a bit of 'Can' tbh, very jammy. one of my favorite things about mars volta baack in the day was how unexpectedly different each of the albums were when they released, annnd this is ultimately continuing that trend. also interesting to see them incorporate more worldy rhythms after focusing on latin beats for decades. i'm intrigued
| |
TMV weirdly are kinda big and yet super weird for their level of fame ar the same time. You gotta admire them for that at least
| |
Damn, they just announced a new tour and of course it's gonna have Omar's Not! wife as support.
| |
That was a cool track, you guys just have unrealistic expectations.
| |
I can’t speak for the video but just listened to the song and it’s a nice chilled jam
| |
I liked the video. Thought it was beautifully shot.
| |
I definitely don't mind this, but I can see why people might be a little disappointed. Now if they release a whole album that's this subdued, then I will start to question what's going on. As it stands, I just assume this is somewhat of a filler track and I assume there will be plenty of songs more closely to what one would normally expect from TMV.
| |
Did you guys forget octahedron was a thing? That album was chill as fuck
| |
The 3 minutes of "mars volta" were alright.
| |
I think this track would have benefitted from a live sounding production. It sounds way too slick, especially when contrasted against the nice organic feel of the intro.
| |
Would have benefited from being good too
| |
underwhelming
trying to figure out location of the vid -- Brazil perhaps?
| |
"trying to figure out location of the vid -- Brazil perhaps?"
Yeah right, I forgot that Brazil's official language was Spanish.
It was filmed in Puerto Rico.
| |
the video is actually very impressive and transports me to another place effectively
don't even like tmv like that but this is an earworm for sure
| |
Way too much hate here for something so groovy and pleasant. Its not topping your nostalgic memories but it isn't bad!
| |
It sounds like an interlude to be honest, I don't mind it.
| |
good track, but I kinda understand the dissapointment.
people were probably expecting something with chaotic drumming, 4 different time signatures, 3 lengthy solos full of delay and chorus and Cedric doing high note stuff
Anyways, I cant wait for what they will do on this
| |
super on brand for them I don't understand where the disconnect is
| |
Song is an absolute fucking banger, fuck the hate.
| |
Song is fire.
| |
part of omar's culture so not sure how it's surprising. but like, did he write the song? like how does a person write music like this? I know that he's actually always written the music. like literally written it out on like graphs and shit.
aside from that though, the band has always been weird and did whatever they wanted to musically, so that isn't surprising either.
is this a video version of the song though? again not seeing how a person ''writes'' a song like his and releases it. it's more like you recorded other folks playing music. idk.
| |
btw theres literally a puerto rican flag in the beginning and omar is puerto rican so.... whats the confusion with the location lol
| |
I'm digging this for sure. It's catchy and that groove is very nice, it's got some neat stuff going on in the production too if you've got good headphones. Wonder what the lineup is now?
| |
There's a fresh lineup on their wiki page that says Eva Gardner is back on bass and some guy named Willy Quinones on the drums. Nice to see another Quinones doing big things if its true.
| |
Who is going to take over the keys, though?
| |
@Eons, only the first three minutes are the actual song, the rest of it are the percussionists and the dancers jamming.
| |
They got lil bro Marcel back on keys
| |
Nice.
| |
Cant believe Ikey died so young, sucks. guy had unmatched energy on the keys.
| |
I dig it even tho it’s lowkey. Some nice earcandy throughout. Hope this is part of a new album.
| |
Complete bollocks
| |
I dont like Marcel on keys so much... its very subdued and not very remarkable
| |
This song makes me wanna go to Margaritaville,
| |
this blows lol
| |
They should have stayed disbanded if this is what they're putting out.
| |
Even Antemasque is better than this.
| |
Antemasque were dogshit
| |
Listening to this with my good headphones setup while playing chess, liking it more.
| |
Might be one of my favorite by them.
| |
I would not go that far, but
| |
