RIP. very sad news - grateful to have heard his voice first-hand seeing velvet revolver.
|
| |
RIP. Stone Temple Pilots was/is one of the most important bands of the nineties and S. Weiland had a very recognizable bad ass voice. Gonna miss this bastard.
|
| |
yea this sucks, another huge 90's icon is gone.
RIP
|
| |
RIP
|
| |
Sex Type Thing is a jam and a half
RIP Scott, always saw him as one of the untouchable legends of the 90s but unfortunately he went down the same path as Layne.
|
| |
RIP. So fucking sad about this but it was kind of expected due to his battle with drug addiction. Another icon of the grunge era is dead to heroin. Damnit.
|
| |
Another huge 90's icon is gone [2], sad news.
RIP.
|
| |
Mountains of alimony payments forcing a man to tour to even survive made the decision to relapse quite easy for him.
|
| |
The 90s are dying before our eyes...
|
| |
RIP - glad I was able to see them in '06.
|
| |
I hope that the girl she's singing about in "I Got You" actually paints roses on his grave.
|
| |
He's* whoops. But yeah...
|
| |
: (
RIP
|
| |
I hate this so much. What an awesome vocalist, regardless of the problems he had. Check out his Unplugged performance of Creep, it's freaking amazing:

I'm partial to Plush acoustic.

Very sad news, STP was one of my first favourite rock bands when I was younger. Absolutely love Purple and Tiny Music...
Huge loss and an awesome, charismatic vocalist. RIP.
|
| |
RIP. One of my favorite bands when I was first getting into rock. Was glad to have seen them in '08 as well.
|
| |
RIP
|
| |
Damn, didn't realize it was this bad, so sudden. Makes me guilty I didn't go see STP while they were still together and Velvet Revolver was underrated too. R.I.P.
|
| |
I know I shouldn't be surprised considering the lifestyle the dude has lead his entire life but it still sucks. Core is one of my favorite 90s records.
|
| |
it's such a fucking downer when you see news like this and aren't immediately shocked, but just bummed out. it was bound to happen sooner or later, dude just couldn't get the help he needed. rip
|
| |
Never got into this group, but still bad news.
A lot of it this year.
|
| |
Well, it's definitely very sad that he has died... but at the same moment, is anyone really shocked?
It was bad with him for many, many years and this year he was totally out of touch with reality: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HQ_eq6NXFY
R.I.P. Scott
|
| |
Heroin really ruined this guy's life. It's what got him kicked out of STP and Velvet Revolver, and eventually is what killed him. This guy's life really was a mess, and it was just completely destroyed in the end.
RIP Scott Weiland. May the girl "I Got You" was written about paint flowers on your grave...
|
| |
used to jam so much stp, rip hard. honestly figured this would happen eventually, so sad
|
| |
that one Revolver song about "the water" is a strip club clossic.. thank you Weiland.
|
| |
is slither the song you're referring to?
|
| |
Slither is a classic song, Slash knows how to write a riff.
|
| |
Very sad but expected... I used to love STP's music before I was even into grunge or much rock, and the fact that those songs are still so iconic shows how special the band was. Scott was a huge part of that, hugely talented guy. RIP.
|
| |
i think Slither the name but i only know it by "HERE COMES THE WAATERRR" with a Slash guitar solo.
|
| |
This is sad. I will play their music today in memory of him.
|
| |
We all knew it was coming sooner or later... sucks he couldn't get help or find the drive to stay clean.
|
| |
I feel like this version of Plush should be in the body of the article
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnWGJoPvQ5U&feature=youtu.be
|
| |
@EyesWideShut yep the song is slither.
|
| |
The recent live videos in texas with the Wildabouts were hard to watch.
Totally saw this coming, but still disappointed. Rip
|
| |
Damn, this is awful.
|
| |
There's a dude in the comments of that video from Texas that said he died 3 weeks ago, too spooky.
http://puu.sh/lIMPw/9ff93d6ad5.png
In all seriousness though, I'm really sad he died. My first concert was a show of his, introduced me to STP who I haven't listened to in far too long and I fixed that today. Last great "rockstar" frontman
|
| |
R.I.P
It's amazing how Core holds up to this day. He added much needed swagger to grunge.
Also Velvet Revolver jams so fucking hard.
|
| |
RIP hard, always admired his amazing stage presence
|
| |
RIP.
|
| |
I've seen this day coming for years but now that it's here, I'm not sure how to react. This guy fucking ruled. Hard RIP
|
| |
To lose a guy like Scott....wow. Just terrible.
|
| |
RIP
|
| |
rip
never listened to this band only known them from the name.
he kinda sounded like layne staley tho
|
| |
Damn, this is really sad to hear. There has been a while since I listened to STP older records, but I grew up listening to this guy. RIP
|
| |
Ah dammit, this sucks. Glad I got to see them on their reunion tour, it was an awesome show. He used a loudspeaker some of the time and had tons of charisma, very memorable. RIP Scott thanks for the awesome tunes.
|
| |
man I used to have a Core t-shirt buried somewhere. Wish I could find it right now.
|
| |
I have no words to properly express my grief, so glad to have seen him with Velvet Revolver in Dublin a decade ago. Gonna jam Core in his memory.
|
| |
Rock on my Irish brother
|
| |
RIP so fucking hard.
|
| |
unique, unique voice
will be missed
|
| |
I feel like I keep hearing about everyone dying this year
He was way too young, RIP
|
| |
I feel like this version of Plush should be in the body of the article
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnWGJoPvQ5U&feature=youtu.be
^ You got that right. One of the best acoustic performances ever.
|
| |
I heard that acoustic version on kroq today. Such raw beauty in that version

Way to steal my link MO! /s

shitty news. rip
|
| |
Heartbreaking. RIP.
|
| |
RIP slither was a banger
sadly this news isn't very shocking
|
| |
wow just found out about this
R.I.P.
|
| |
It's sad indeed, but for those who have been up to date with his lifestyle, this comes as no surprise. Too bad the drugs got the better of him, that's always a loss, and I will mourn him. I guess the only positive is that he went out by his own admission, in a way - I'm sure leaving this earthly life wasn't in his plans, but then again I doubt he was mulling over it whilst living life according to his own rules. We can criticize, if we want, but the man made his choices, and seemed to be quite aware of the consequences. No one is immortal, I just really hope he was okay with himself before passing away.
|
| |
i've read stuff about him, and it's just heartwrenching. He apparently felt drugs (especially heroin) in different ways with everyone else, and many songs were about how he loved it, but hated what it was doing to him. He was honestly trying to change, but his addictions just got so bad that he was fired from both Velvet Revolver and STP. And eventually, it lead to his death. It's no surprise, but its still devastating none the less. Rock in Peace man.
|
| |
Not surprised.
|
| |
so is his band still gonna finish the tour or what
|
| |
RIP, such a great singer.
It's a shame how things were turning out for him before the end
|
| |
http://pitchfork.com/news/62396-billy-corgan-pens-eulogy-for-scott-weiland/
|
| |
I just read that Billy Corgan eulogy this afternoon, quite a heartfelt read.
|
| |
Yeah I was surprised. Articles about Corgan in the past few years paint him as a whiny self centered attention whore, but he did well here. Very genuine.
|
| |
that Eulogy was gorgeous
|
| |
Knew this was coming but it's still really fucking sad.
Rip.
|
| |
I haven't listened much to STP, but I really like Sour Girl. I was more into Velver Revolver.
Like Spec said, given his way of life, this moment was expected I guess. Even so, it sucks to hear this happened. RIP
|
| |
I feel so very sad for Scott. He was many things, some good some bad, but very quietly, a gentleman and he never complained about his lot. This is a long interview with Howard Stern, but worth the watch...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWWRqjzX7YE
|
| |
RIP
|
| |
Big shame, loved his work in STP and Contraband was one of my favourite albums growing up
|
| |
RIP
|
| |
Don't do drugs, kids.
They makes you get all Weiland crazy.
|
| |
It's really sad to hear that yet another 90's rock icon died, let alone at the age of 48. Despite the problems that he had throughout his entire career, he still had that fire burning inside of him that kept him going.
R.I.P.
|
| |
Very sad news, though I suppose his drug habits were going to get to him eventually. He was a talented vocalist, and wrote some of the most iconic songs of the '90s.
RIP
|
| |
so Jeremy brown dies in March of this year from drug cocktails and no one says anything... that should've been the writing on the wall. his circle of friends should be ashamed of themselves.
|
| |
Such sad news, I'm a long time fan, it's always been a joy to read Scott's interviews and thoughts, a clever and funny guy as well as one of the most talented rock singer/songwriters and frontmen in my lifetime.
Rest in Peace dude. your music will live forever.
I thought people might want to see this VH1 special from early 2000 (upon the release of 'Sour girl' from the N0.4 album) great song's and some Q & A's with fans in between;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yk6WRG1yQpg
|
| |
Unfortunate but inevitable really.
RIP
|
| |
Now what, army of anyone will make a comeback next year? they can't replace Scott, not after he passed away. They are not alice in chains
|
| |
Yeah, no kidding. Alice in Chains were/are 10x better.
|
| |
Agree 100%
|
| |
I do agree that Alice in Chains are better. But then again, that's because I'm an obsessive fanboy of AIC, even the William DuVall stuff
|
| |
Alice In Chains are one of the all time greats, unbeatable when Layne was around, but STP's enormous value was/is not to be denied.
|
| |
Why whenever there is an article about Kurt Cobain and now Scott Weiland (RIP) AIC fans feel the need to chime in with the usual AIC/Layne were/was 10x better yada yada?
I'm a big fan of that band too but this is about Scott Weiland's death people, seems disrespectful to me. He (and STP) left massive mark on the musical landscape and imo was a little overlooked/underappreciated, one of the best singer/songwriters and frontmen of the last few decades.
|
| |
I hate when people do that, and I'm a big fan of AiC. STP made some amazingly enjoyable music, who cares if you think AiC is 10x better.
|
| |
R.I.P. His copycat band was enjoyable.
|
| |
Ugh. I am in shock.
|
| |
RIP
|
| |
