Gene - the rater of either 3.0 or 4.0,

Racetraitor Creation and the Timeless Order of Things
Racetraitor's comeback album has a sweet tooth for the artsy direction, but their understasnding of that is mainly centred around some spacey production, doom and sludge influence, and pace-breaking slow down moments that are fine individually, but not after damn near every single song. That said, there is still plenty savage moments, the vocals are hearty, and the instrumentals can go wild (in the rare moments that they do).
P.S.: how wild is it that this is a Fall Out boy side-project?

The Thrills So Much For The City
Not a lot of 'thrills' here, but certainly a lot a lot of supersoft charm.

Soft Play Are You Satisfied?
Outside of the fact that this album (and band) is an insincere ploy, the whole thing is irritatingly inconsistent. It appears to strive for some punk riot, yet at every turn also assumes an artsy face that simply does not fare well with its other side. For every genuinely punching moment, there are at least two baffling ones.

Editors The Weight of Your Love
Editors reduce the energy and pace even further and deliver what is on the surface their darkest record, but in its core perhaps the most benign. That said, this really is the album where they have nailed the sweettooth melodies and harmonies all around.

Baroness Gold and Grey
Baroness ramp up the 'progressive' and overstretched the production graininess that was already pushing its limits before. Along with that, the most nondescript song-writing to ever disgrace a Baroness album.

Baroness Purple
The point at which the overzealous devotion to compression and static mixing hit its absolute peak, both as a powerhouse of a musical vessel, and as a moment of all going only downhill since.

Dimmu Borgir Enthrone Darkness Triumphant
Dimmu Borgir, even at their highest, are still and forever a bloated mess with too much power in delivery and none at all in creativity or sense of direction.

  • FurtherDown Yeah could be. I just listened to Ida's new single and it brings quite interesting electronic twist to the table. Great track!

  • FurtherDown Hey, massive thanks for the promo work of our new Manon Meurt record here on sput! What will be next czechdream record to make a splash here? I'm expecting big things from Ida the Young debut which will come out this year hopefully. And last week I saw Favorite Obsession who are also fresh out of the studio. Any others? :)
