Review Summary: Not their best album but I like it.
You may hate what I have to say but WHO CARES??!
I certainly for one do not care what your opinions on Emmure are, I don't care whether you think they are the most horrible band you've ever heard or if you have a strong loyalty to the band. I like them and none of you pompous assholes are going to change that.
Okay no more rambling now to the album I thought it was a smart idea to mix hardcore and Nu Metal I see nothing wrong with it. It was more the result of the turn out that made me give the album the score that I did it was alright but certainly not as good as the previous two i.e. Goodbye to the Gallows and The Respect Issue they were deathcore masterpieces in my mind they didn't rush when making those two albums but that's the reason I don't like felony as much as the other two it sounds like they sped up their work on the CD and that basically threw everything together really sloppily it feels as though they had little less than a week to complete it.
CD BREAK DOWN:
1.Sunday Bacon
Sunday Bacon is not that good of a song it quite blows as a song but it has some good points. (Hey, it could be worst i.e. Brokencyde.) But I hear the sped up process mostly in this song it quite just takes elements of nu metal and sloppily smears it over the metalcore /hardcore background. The lyrics are quite mediocre at best. song rating: 2.5
2.I Thought You Met Telly and Turned Me into Casper
Much better than Sunday Bacon but not the best song on the album. It is a fast song with more hardcore influences that make it sound much better than the ghetto boasting of Sunday Bacon. I for one like Breakdowns they make my day and this supplies me with my daily need of breakdowns. Song rating: 3.5
3. I <3 EC2
This song makes me love deathcore with metalcore melodies this song is one of my favorites off the CD. Damn Frankie can actually pull off an alright singing voice it isn't the best signing voice I've ever heard but I bet it's better than anything Vincent can do. Song rating: 4.2
4.Felony
It sounds like Mushroom Head if the vocals of Mushroom Head were a lot heavier but worse it stays heavy longer than some of the other songs so it's not horrible like some of the other songs on the album. It is kinda what is expected from a title track. Song rating: 3
5.You Sunk My Battleship
You Sunk My Battleship sounds like a Deftones song it has the same styling however it is not in any way shape or form my favorite song it sounds like a very bad Deftones song but still sounds like the Deftones nevertheless but I don't like the song that much. Song rating: 3
6.The Philosophy of Time Travel
This song sounds like a rap-punk song with death growls I love Emmure but I could back up their other 2 CD's way better. This song has more lyrics that really don't do the band justice at all. They could have went back to their old styling of lyrics with more rigidity and structure not some random words on a piece of paper put together so it sounds cool. You don't want to sound like you were educated in a Cleveland, Ohio district school. Song rating: 2.8
7.First Impressions
Good but could do without the talking vocals through out the whole song I don't like to hear talking in my deathcore music just screaming and occasional singing but no talking please. Song rating: 3.2
8. R2deepthroat
Here we go it's the famous feud song between Emmure and The Acacia Strain because Frankie thought Skynet was about TAS hate for them so they go off plagiarizing from other songs such as Star***ers Inc. by Nine Inch Nails and your so vein by Carlie Simmon way to go Emmure. This is probably my second favorite song off the album but the story behind the song is bull but the one story I do like from it because of the lyrics "Ask your girl what my dick tastes like." Because Frankie got a blow job from Vincent's girlfriend at the time but this song is hard as hell. Song rating: 4.6
9. Bars in Astoria
Sounds like Korn guitars and bass and is one of the most amazing songs on the album still not my favorite song on the album but right next to it. The vocals also sound like Korn at times and since I'm a big Korn fan I love this song. the Nu Metal genre mix is great in this song. Song rating: 4.8
10. Lesson from Nichole
Awesome song this is where the album should have started this song is amazing it has metalcore structure deathcore sound no Nu Metal bull but it's not a very long song at all so it could have been longer. Song rating: 4.9
11. Don't be One
My favorite song yes I know who's singing but have you ever heard of a little band called Arma Angelus listen to them look em up the screamer for them is none other than Pete Wentz. That doesn't quite forgive him for Fallout Boy but still he is an awesome screamer and not that bad of a singer and that is what made me love and appreciate this song. Song rating: 5.0
12. Immaculate Misconception
Not the best song to end on but it's short so you don't have to listen to it for long I usually just don't listen to it so yeah ignore this one it's just another mediocre outro song. Song rating: 2
Hence the album score of : 3.5 it was alright but could have been better.
