| onionbubs title track is my favorite song he ever wrote but run of the mill, opener, let down, what is life, let it roll, art of dying, and hear me lord are all huge highlights for me. been jamming tons of solo beatles recently and there is more solid stuff than id given credit ngl esp from paul, but that albums still untouchable for me
| onionbubs my MAN! what are your highlights brother i am so happy to hear
| SteakByrnes can't believe I'm being ignored by my friend nash
| SteakByrnes Oh hell yea nice, I like working with SQL! Very funny tho that we both work within Epic lol, idk how long I'll do it for but for now I'm enjoying it
| SteakByrnes oh wow no s*** really?? That's great haha wow, I deal with Bridges and Capsule stuff mostly but I do have a security cert I'm working towards for it too! How about you?
| NudeTayne When I think of a music video for P5 Silhouette, I think of Spencer and The Deep from The Boys dancing and looking straight into the cameras the whole time
| GreyShadow checked the title track and it's gorgeous, great rec bro! will get to the album this week for sure
| Trifolium YESSSSSSSS. So true. So many people sadly don't see that here. It's one of my faves even!
| Tundra Well still, then he's not "classically boring" by statistic to you, could have said he's been boring since the past couple releases
| Tundra "Classic boring Plini" bro what? you give most of his releases a 4 and he's classically boring?
| Trifolium Nice. If you have a hard time finding their stuff, I can help you find it... I hunted down all of their albums on CD, my format of choice.
| bighubbabuddha haha no. it's a theory i'm studying at uni :) you're name made me think of it.
| Trifolium Duuuuuuude yes Portishead is one of the greats!!!! Enjoy the trip! I think there's old and new jazz among my ratings, I'll have a look if I find something to rec. What I do know is that Indigo Jam Unit is there and you should totally check some of their stuff if you haven't already. Pirates for instance. They are totally awesome!!
| Trifolium Also also NICE on the Abbey Road and Rubber Soul love yes yes yes they are indeed the best!
| Trifolium Also it seems Sput doesn't let me write u p d a t e d here, it gets bleeped away for some reason.
| Trifolium Oooooooh nice, Bill is so perfect, very nice that Peterson is in his league! Will check those records for sure and report back. Fave Opeth: my top 4 has been Morningrise, MAYH, GR, Heritage in a random order for a long time now. Love those records dearly. What are yours?
| Trifolium "haven'td" is "haven'td" of course...
| Trifolium Also: what about you? Fave Beatles? Fave Miles? Fave Portishead?
| Trifolium Hehehe nash I'm blushing!!!! I'd say fave Beatles nowadays is the Help-Rubber Soul-Revolver stretch with the addition of Abbey Road. Fave Miles is veeeeeerrrrry difficult, I think I'd still go for The Big Ones: Kind of Blue, Silent Way, Bitches Brew. And Round About Midnight. But I haven'td my ratings for him in a while. Haven't heard Peterson yet, which one should I check?
| Dedes Hell yeah brother, as good as myspacecore Counterparts can get lol
| Dedes Have you ever jammed The Angst in My Veins by Capsize
| Dedes Do you wanna hear a band that is like moderately weaker but still enjoyable ripoff Counterparts
| onionbubs probably inspiration is dead and then go chrono from there. debut is solid but inessential from what i remember. they majorly step it up w inspo. i'mperfect is prob their most accessible tho
| bloc Ah the memories : )
| bloc Sounds sick, could totally imagine it with a vocalist too
| SteakByrnes Oh wow yea that is supremely my s*** lol good looks bro
| Tundra yeahhh love it, that almost makes Vitalism sound a bit dated which is pretty damn nuts, top-tier "instru-metal", hopefully his EP releasing will stack up to that track
| MarsKid What's good What's goooooood
| MarsKid Yooo I'd say their critical consensus best alb is Love Always, Leviathan! It should give you a great intro to what they're about. My personal fav is Rearm but LA,L is a wonderful launch point.
| Emim Dunno if I've heard Stories, but def heard Amia Venera. One of the goats
| Rowan5215 I did at least 5-6 years on staff iirc. doesn't feel that long admittedly so I getchu, but I def earned my grumpy old retirement years on here lmao
| Rowan5215 weird comment with no context but go off king
| Futures christcore lives in spirit m/
| Tundra Check Unsolicited mah dude
| Tundra ok Sometime in February some good instrumental prog, thnx for rec
| MarsKid I'll have to revisit them! And it seems a staff member dibbed their one coming out this year, so you'll be in luck!
| tectactoe You're too kind. I see you recently went on an Ornette binge. Any specific jazz artists/styles/etc. you want to divulge into next?
| MarsKid 2nd half of that album is massive my man, glad you're enjoying it! Whole thing is steeped in visceral self-hatred.
| SteakByrnes Word brother I will hit those Chamber singles, didn't know they had anything new out
| Muzz79 Glad you enjoyed! It reminded me of a band called Alaya who had an album Thrones in 2014. Its a bit of a grower
| Muzz79 Hey man I have a rec for ya. Have you heard Mask of Prospero - Hiraeth? I rly dig it
| trilo oh still with headphones 100% i just mean you get less mileage out of a nice pair when the recording was done with a $10 mic from walmart lmao
| trilo but they don?t have the bass-y oomph for metal imo
| trilo dangit can't fit everything into one comment lol. anyway re: headphones i don't think bm is a great genre for it since the production tends to be lo-fi. headphones can't elevate a bad recording. but i do really like most of the cans by Sennheiser and Beyerdynamic for metal. great cans at all price points. only ones i'd prob avoid is the HD 598s. amazing sound
| trilo yo yo dude. big fan of Walknut - Graveforests and their Shadows, Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse and Drudkh - Forgotten Legends. for more modern stuff any of the albums by The Great Old Ones, and then the latest albums by Abigail Williams, Mare Cognitum and Blut aus Nord (esp this one, what a mind**** of an album). been really into Telos - Delude lately, more blackened metalcore/hardcore tho.
| dedex You're welcome! I'd also add that Keleketla record fro 2020, a JoBurg-London connection with (among many other cool peepz) the OG Tony Allen
| dedex Heya nash thanks a lot mate! Ain?t British, I?m just a Franco-Belgian idiot who loves jazz! Glad you like LB, the biggest boi out of this collective is Shabaka Hutchings, and you def should listen to his various bands (Sons of Kemet, The Comet Is Coming, Shabaka and the Ancestors). Also Nubya Garcia (the other saxophonist) has got great solo output. My fav jazz record of 2022 was Ezra Collective?s, def recommend them too! That?d be a good beginning woop woop keep on rockin?
| MarsKid Fables is one of my favorite albums of all time. It's genuinely so well-written, especially considering how many different elements it juggles. No matter what mood I'm in, that record makes me feel so ****in' happy, I crack a smile just thinking about it. Glad you loved it! Time to bump that thread, my man.
| MarsKid Have you not heard them before?? You're in for a treat my man.
| artiswar no listening party scheduled at this time but I can add you on discord. If there was one, that's how it would happen. Const is like my favorite album ever probably, am glad someone else appreciates it as much as I do on here
| Emim Lol I tried sending a heart emoji. Forgot sput is still in 2007
| onionbubs hell yea love you brother youre an eternal homie
| MoM Aww, thanks, Nash! The feeling is mutual! Have a great day, dude
| Muzz79 Hey man, yes that one came up and gave a spin the other day. Good rec, its my sorta thing but might need some slower parts to break up the intensity
| MarsKid I do like that cover. Shall be checking soon!
| MarsKid Sorry, late reply! But I've been doing better my man, it's a gradual process but we making it happen.
| MarsKid How you been my dude? Haven't seen you around as much lately.
| MarsKid Based Invent Animate opinion
| Tundra listen to Spite - Dedication to Flesh, has enough monkey brain riffs for you to enjoy. Since you know, Invent Animate are Thornyhornyhill clone now, it's lame s*** so yeah. Listen to Spite, utilize the 3 brain cells you have left to the best of your ability, and jam to these brain rot riffs, ur welcome.
| SteakByrnes No doubt dude. I was always a bit hesitant because of the price but they are well worth it and I will use these for a long time, hopefully yours last you a hot minute as well bro
| SteakByrnes lmao absolutely dude ;] they are very comfy too, never had any issues with them in that department
| SteakByrnes Yooooooo let's go dude!! I'm glad you dig them, I bet they sound amazing haha. I have the XM4s and use them so much, I love them dude. Make everything sound so crisp and beefy lol
| MarsKid Thanks my man, I appreciate it. Just dealing with the usual depression stuff, been spiking lately but hopefully going to be making significant steps to stop it.
| SteakByrnes He is going sicko mode I'm happy for the pels, I really like their team they have a god squad forming. I love seeing Zion dominate after everybody was putting him down all last season lol, shut them losers up! Zion and Luka probably the most fun players to watch rn for me
| SteakByrnes They are pretty comfortable, haven't had them hurt over time for me since I've had them which is nice but also haven't had them on for like more than an hour and a half at a time yet lol
| SteakByrnes Well I've only spent a week with the Sonys but I would tentatively say they're better! And idk if I'd pay 400 lol, that's why I waited for Black Friday sales on them got them for 228, but I'm also a cheap bastard so they probably are worth it. The low end is pretty narsty tbh, better than I was expecting, I tested out a lot of core on them and they do go proper hard
| SteakByrnes bro the xm4s are so righteous the sound quality is absurd, and the noise cancelling is super tight. I highly recommend if you're thinking about it, I imagine the xm5s are just as good if not better as well lmao. the senns also sound very good and are relatively cheaper than their alternatives at like 200 bucks. Very happy with both
| Emim Can't blame you there. Site kinda died for a while
| Emim I'd appreciate that, my intake of new stuff and searching it out has slowed down considerably in the last few years. And yeah I've been active most of that time. For 2-3 years I lurked way more than commented
| Emim Cheers, man! You're one of the few I use as a barometer for if I'm gonna like something
| MarsKid Sick and appropriate rating, glad you liked it. Their back catalog is also very solid old-school metalcore.
| MarsKid Well :^( At least you gave it a shot!
| MarsKid Top 5 band for me my man, some of my favorite albums of all time were written by them. Absolutely love their work.
| MarsKid Hell yes brother man, that's what I like to hear! If you aren't familiar with their discog, you're in for a ride.
| Muzz79 Cool will do. I know the band name but they haven?t grabbed me yet. I?ll check m/
| Muzz79 Man its metal all the way for me haha, but gotta be interesting and a good listen. Ill check cloud rat as Ive seen that come up a bit. That Watain is evil as all hell not that I pay any attention to bm lyrical content as its all bollocks
| Muzz79 Hey nash! Yeah I noticed too after northlane obsidian and an abstract illusion you have wide variety of tastes great stuff. BM is one of my abs favs and got into very early but the more melodic and symphonic side rather than the raw and underproduced stuff. This year I'm digging Saor, Watain, Agathodaimon, Te Ruki and last year standout was Nordgeist which got me with the epic guitars. Any recs from you bm or otherwise?
| MarsKid New Blue October is a massive vibe, hopefully you enjoy it!
| MarsKid You're not on that Daoboys train yet?? Son, I thought our wavelengths were aligned. :^(
| MarsKid Delayed AotY shiz: Persefone, Callous Daoboys, possibly Blue October. I'll have to check back earlier in the year too, plus I gotta catch up on all the stuff I've been missing out on.
| SaveBandit For real man! I love seeing teams like the Blazers and Pels playing well while teams like Philly, Brooklyn, and LAL are struggling to start the year.
| SaveBandit Crazy dude. I 100% did not expect them to start this well. We'll see how it goes, I'm still holding back any excitement until it gets further in the season. They've been middle of the road for so long it's hard to see them being more than that ya know? But Ant looks great!
| MarsKid What's your AotY lookin like these days my man?
| MarsKid That is a prime Spiderman meme right there good sir, guard it with your life but also share it at very (in)opportune moment.
| MarsKid https://youtu.be/ivEm-Tjo6GM
| MarsKid We don't interact much but we agree like 99% of the time and it's starting to get uncanny.
| Sowing All set. You might need to clear your browser cache to see it. Parameters are 500x500 or smaller, JPEG, less than 200 kb. So if you met that criteria and it still failed, then it could be the site's uploader being flukey as its known to be sometimes.
| bloc Thanks brother, I totally forgot this year until you mentioned it. Never been much of a celebratory guy though
| Atari It?s my pleasure :] hopefully u find something u dig in there
| Atari ugh apparently the and symbol is messing up the link. it's on the same page but it's called "atmospheric metal highlights" from 07/26/19
| Atari you might dig some stuff from this list I did two summers ago if you're bingeing this kinda stuff atm https://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=690146
| bloc Question of the ages bro
| bloc And..wait...what's this?? THE DRUMMER FROM ATRYU WITH A STEEL CHAIR
| bloc Dino Cazares steps in to make it a triple threat match
| bloc Why do you ask questions you already know the answer to
| SaveBandit Yo! Right now my favorite one is Albatross, but idk it just depends on the day lol. What about you?
| SteakByrnes Yea I'm gonna give it a spin sometime soon, work been hectic today so not much time to jam new stuff other than new spiritbox and plot lol
| JohnnyoftheWell wait what this guy sounds like the guy from Sikth this is kinda fun
| JohnnyoftheWell hahaha ok i'll defs give it a peep - if i don't vibe it i'll probs give reving a miss though, have fanned enough flames lately ;]
| AdoreSwancore Btw, you may want to check out valiant hearts, it is a side project of a couple members of Galleons https://valianthearts.bandcamp.com/
| AdoreSwancore Ah, yeah I guess that is an understandable mistake to make then given that
| AdoreSwancore Galleons albums were already in the database under Galleons (AUS)... the Galleons page is for a different band with the same name
| SteakByrnes Yea I'm liking them a lot so far! Checked the new album first and played it through twice, going through the other stuff now
| SteakByrnes Word lol I'll give them a shot then, I would say to check out this band I just found but you have all their stuff rated lmao (Galleons)
| SteakByrnes This has 57 views how did you find this lmao, righteous tho I'm jamming now and it rules
| JayEnder Eh no worries man he's just a troll like you said. At least I hope so, bc if not he's almost as annoying as Pika and that says a lot lmao. Some people on this site just make me wish I could reach through my screen and beat em
| SteakByrnes Inventure was a good find! Kinda had that old progcore sound mixed with the more modern sound, and while it's nothing new, they certainly play it well and make it fun
| SteakByrnes Righteous brother, there's a lot of stuff on that list that you'd dig haha. Yashira is very pummeling and sludgy and riffy it rules, glad you dig it! That was a fun list to make lol, hadn't made a year end list since like 2017
| bigweinerdon Yeah man I checked it this morning! Some tracks are absolutely pummelling. Sounds right up there with Apple of Discord, which I jammed heavily. Band is super underrated.
| SteakByrnes Oh I forgot they had a new one coming, I haven't actually checked the one prior to this but the first two albums are fun. I'll give it a check sometime today or this weekend :]
| Feather Swoon or Carnavas, if you like those then I would say Neck of the Woods and Better Nature are worth your time as well. You can definitely skip Widows Weed. Bed Head is VERY silversun pickups sounding, has to do with the electronic touches and just overall feel of the song.
| bloc I only picked up stuff through the grapevine, but I could swear there was an incident involving urinating on someone lol. Whether true or false, I have no idea.
| bloc Honestly, I have no idea. I just saw that some weird stuff went down and he was never heard from again. I don't really keep up with a lot of the Sputnik "lore" lol
| BallsToTheWall Bruh, I didn?t see that Pokémon message til now, a month later. s***!
| bloc Just released on Spotify so I will check it as soon as I can. I am expecting it to be solid enough
| LuigiPichardo Just thought I'd let you know Paramore's new album is coming out April 9th. A little later than I anticipated! haha oh well
| Yuli Hey man, sorry about the really delayed response. I've been pretty busy, and have waited to shout you back until I got a chance to give a worthwhile response. Thanks a ton about the BTBAM review. Lay Your Ghosts To Rest is definitely one of my favorites, but sadly I feel it has too many ideas going on. There are quite a few uninspired blast beat moments in the first third that are grating to me, but the rest of the track is really enjoyable. What genre is Lovedrug?
| barcafan21 what album again? lost it in my shoutbox and i forgot to make a note of it
| barcafan21 are you implying that it will sound like TEN?
| Yuli We can talk further through e-mail if you'd like. You can contact me at jacobmattroyal@gmail.com! =]
| Yuli The new Minus the Bear was enjoyable enough, just not innovative at all. Nothing's new there though. Future Sequence is a 3.5 for me - it's got great moments, and bloated ones. Melting City and Silent Flight kinda ruin the album for me, but other than that it's a refreshing change of pace for me. I've gotten a review written up for it, and you'll be able to read it once the album's up for a stream.
| Yuli Duuuude what's up? :] have you heard the new Minus the Bear?
| ChuckyTruant Yep and recspecs used to be but recently had a change of heart/mind
| ChuckyTruant yeah and kimm is this chick on here and she is christian and loves ABR too haha. she isnt around much anymore though
| ChuckyTruant Yeah man m/. Only other Christians I know here are Auber I think, emim, kimm and idk who else
| silentpotato i dont want your s***ty tissues now leave me alone you jerk
| silentpotato no i d'd your comment to save face cuz im not a butt plug and im horribly offended and am crying on my bathroom floor as we speak.
| silentpotato im pretty sure you can answer that for yourself pretty easily
| Yuli Thanks man. I write to get people to check the good stuff out - I'm glad that you enjoy it. :]So is Mi Fa Mi worth checking out? I really dislike the less memorable tracks on Heart
| LifeAsAChipmunk Isn't it all so convenient how you, Andcas, and I all have our personal distastes for a single "big" pop punk band? You = The Wonder Years, Andcas = Yellowcard, me = Blink-182. Also, Potsy may have amazing taste in music, but don't believe his facetious comment, Omaha is a very nice guy.
| silentpotato it comes from how many similar ratings you have tho, not how similar your pie charts are
| Yuli Not at all, I agreed with every single point you made. I'm not the typical Sputnik asshole, I promise. :]
| sspedding i thought i would commend you on your avatar.
| Tyrael Lol really? If a metal elitist looked at my ratings (and several have) he'd facepalm himself so hard that the entire space-time continuüm would be permanently damages... Plus, my taste is like the opposite of yours lol
| silentpotato haha nah dude i can speak like three words in spanish and thats about it im just a mutt
| ChuckyTruant well lets see, they got little drummer boy, carol of the bells, o come o come emmanuel, god rest ye merry gentlemen so yeah idk i count 4
| silentpotato she cooks me chicken and feeds me watermelon every day she's great
| ILJ I'm glad I'm not the only one. The vocalist was good but everything else was very generic and boring.
| DaveyBoy The musical neighbors list is a strange and flawed beast.
| esther Thanks for your input :)
| Deviant. Oh wait, wrong list. Looks like the link got cut off - just go through my lists and look for the one called The Dancing Deviant
| Winsomniac It's a tiny bit too blatantly Christian for my taste lately, but instrumentally it's sound.
| Deviant. http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=426967
| sspedding Cheers, I will get hold of it tonight and let you know what I think when I get chance.
| bloc Ah nice! Yeah, listening to most DM doesn't require much brain power ;) But as for the electronic, I ain't surprised to see you digging Swarms and Submotion. Other than me, last.fm is a great tool for finding artists similar to those two.
| Voivod good to know man, i remember that debate with Dev, anyway much obliged for the random shoutbox comment, those comments matter the most, if you are asking me. Cheers!
| bloc Haha, no sweat. Those scarier ones are always hard to get into. But I'm loving the fact that your two favourites are pretty much two of my favourite bands.
| esther Hey man I noticed you like some of the same bands I do. I wrote and recorded an EP and I was wondering if you could review, rate, or even just listen to it. Here's a link: facebook.com/esther801music
| bloc It was no trouble my man. Just remember though, no guarantees that you'll like any of it!
| LuigiPichardo My guess is late August/Early September. They're my favourite band and I know what they're doing at every waking moment so I'll let you know when I find a leak ;D haha
| bloc For industrial, Mind.In.A.Box - Crossroads, Alien Vampires - Harshlizer, CygnosiC - Fallen, Mesh - We Collide, The Birthday Massacre - Walking With Strangers
| bloc For electronic, Boom Boom Satellites - Exposed, Com Truise - Cyanide Sisters, Swarms - Old Raves End, Submotion Orchestra - Finest Hour, and Mint Julep - Saves Your Season
| bloc For hip-hop, Big L - Lifestylez Ov Da Poor and Dangerous, Nas - Illmatic, Wu-Tang Clan - 36 Chambers, Orphans of Cush - White Noize, and CunninLynguists - Oneirology
| bloc Interesting proposal, let's give it a shot. For DM, check out Atheist - Unquestionable Presence, Brutality - Screams Of Anguish, Garden Of Shadows - Oracle Moon, Benediction - Transcend The Rubicon, and Demolition Hammer - Epidemic Of Violence.
| LuigiPichardo I'm hoping for the best with Paramore. Apparently, they've recorded 19 songs and will be narrowing it down to around 10. But the Singles club wasn't that good not gonna lie :P
| LuigiPichardo Yeah, that's alright. However, I do enjoy some heavy stuff but usually not Metalcore or Djent. I've listened to the new Linkin Park album twice but I just can't get into it. The lyrics are cheesy and the instrumentals are boring imo. But the first and last song are great.
| LuigiPichardo Finally a good musical neighbor!! Do you have any recommendations for me considering my tastes?
| sspedding yerp. Dead Man is the best track. I guess it was one of those where I had very little in the way of expectation and it turned out to be pretty good as far as melodic hardcore goes.
| sspedding Check out Of Virtue's most recent release for some ambient melodic hardcore.
| Winsomniac The Carrier has a pretty ****ing incredible discog. Probably my favorite of the list. All are pretty good though.
| KSK1 Counterparts, Departures, Verse, More Than Life, Modern Life Is War, Saints Never Surrender, Carpathian, Troubled Coast, Heart In Hand are all really good melodic hardcore bands.
