  • OmairSh Hey Nick I saw that you liked Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, there's a Jazz Rock band that might interest you, the Mekaal Hasan Band. It blends eastern and western styles of music, with the vocals being eastern classical like Nusrat Khan and the song structures being primarily influenced by eastern styles.

  • clercqie Reading your London Calling soundoff and I can't help but mention that they didn't write "Brand New Cadillac" themselves, it's a cover of Vince Taylor. But I'm done nitpicking now ;)
    July 25 04:59 PM
  • BroFro Are you the same Nick Butler who has all the football videos up on Youtube? If so, that Clint Dempsey video is incredible, one of my favorite USA tributes I've seen.
    June 7 02:03 AM
  • Deviant. You ever check out the Sub:Stance mix by Scuba? Just listening now and it's great
    May 29 10:57 AM
  • DaveyBoy Youre a disgrace for letting an Aussie beat you in fantasy EPL. The way you started the season, I thought I finally had a genuine contender. Pick up your game come August.
    May 27 12:28 AM
  • Electric City I hadn't read all of your review when I started mine. Just went back and read the whole thing and I think it's funny we got the same influences: flylo, burial, how to dress well. We seem to have a habit of thinking the same things completely independent of each other (your American Idiot soundoff vs. my 21CB review if you don't know what i mean)
    February 19 08:59 PM
  • Deviant. Awww, admittedly they're not my favourite band. I'm doing an a-z of my hardrive and just running through everything I own, with everything getting 1 play each. So while I obviously love DT, they've only got the top spot because they've been around for so long and put out so much material. One of my favourite artists is a house producer called Wolfgang Gartner but he's only put out 30 odd tracks

  • Baphomet Hi Mr. Butler, sir. Since you're onf the FPL there's this league in UCL fantasy football you might wanna join. Code is 182924-37010. And while we're at it, why don't you throw some recs around?
    September 28 05:48 PM
  • Zizzer It can be if need be. I don't know if there are multiple recordings of it though besides the anniversary edition.
    September 6 03:53 AM
  • thebhoy Yeah, I wouldn't say he's as good as Gorecki, but it's some nice stuff. He reminds me a bit of Sibelius and Elgar, who are two of my favourites, so that's probably why I like him haha. I'm trying to review it, but classical can be a tricky thing to review, so I'm trying to get my head around it.
    September 3 01:03 PM
  • thebhoy have you listened to the new Arvo Part disc streaming on npr? I know how you like Gorecki figured you would probably like that too.
    September 2 05:46 PM
  • Zizzer Can we add musicals as albums? If so, what genre would I classify Claude-Michel Schönberg\'s Les Miserables?
    September 2 04:09 PM
  • IAJP haha thank you, i may in some sort of bizarre parallel change my avatar to edgar varese or iannis xenakis. i love interesting looking old composers who actually played on their compositions. karl is the master though.

  • Tits McGee hey man, just wanna say you did a pretty awesome job on the World Cup Sounds entries. those posts introduced me to some pretty cool music, as well as keeping me informed on alot of countries ivolved in the Cup. kudos

  • Gyromania I can't really check right now, as I'm currently typing this using my phone, but I'm pretty sure it's not accessible to Canadians =[
    July 10 07:04 PM
  • Gyromania Nah, never heard of Spotify. Thanks a lot for the help and the link, I appreciate it. How would I contact you to receive that though? In case I cannot find it.
    July 9 10:46 PM
  • Gyromania A little bit of both, actually. You have excellent taste in music, and I'm trying to write reviews for certain albums I see you also enjoy that don't get a lot of attention on sputnik. I was also wondering if I could get a few albums from you, such as "Alexander Borodin Polovtsian Dances" and "Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Tchaikovsky: Symphony 6 "Pathétique" in B minor Op".
    July 3 04:21 PM

  • maqwep oh cool, that makes sense in the grand scheme of things. thanks man.
    June 9 07:03 AM
  • Piglet I doubt that refurbishing the classical section will make much difference to a person's view on the classical piece. The majority of the sputnik collective seems to be more critical on how good the piece is and only occasionally on the production. Thanks for letting me know, mate.
    June 7 12:57 PM
  • OceanOfWisdom Yo man, could you possibly tell me why my Album Ratings list got reset? I had over 1000 albums rated, and it just ****ing reset my counter for some reason!!!
    June 1 09:50 AM
  • Enotron Alright, thank you. I might do some more searching around various blogs, I usually resort to mediafire or rapidshare. It looks great based on your review.
    May 31 08:06 PM

    May 25 05:14 PM
  • Romijn I don't know where you're talking about and keep it that way!
    May 25 04:24 PM
  • Romijn Incredible how much bulls*** a staff member can write, i really regret i made a account on sputnikmusic. How can you say these songs are emotionless? For example Don't Walk Away is sung with a lot of emotion. you are also the first 1 i've heard complaining about the vocals.
    May 24 04:24 PM
  • Romijn I just don't agree with your rating for invincible, you didn't even give me a good reason. If i remember correctly you said Michael repeats the chorus to much, altough thats true in some songs its not more than 7 ( You Rock my World), the other songs where he repeats the chorus a lot is 5 or 6 times, what is acceptable in pop music.
    May 23 05:41 PM
  • 2muchket! I'll be rating and reviewing dubstep over the coming weeks. It's pretty accurate otherwise though. The genre tags could do with fixing though, post metal, screamo and dubstep need to be added already.
    May 22 04:43 AM
  • Romijn No man, its probably just not your type of music like beethoven isn't my type of music.

  • plane They weren't good till Silent Shout even then my admiration is purely that. This sounds nothing like that though (give or take a few moments in the finale) collaboration.
    May 14 05:16 AM
  • plane I'm wondering what your take is on The Knife's Tomorrow, in a Year. You seem to be the only staff writer interested in opera.
    May 13 07:44 PM
  • Deviant. Honestly, I think its their most consistent release since Psyence. But I also enjoyed their last album, so you might not think the same for this one. Its been out in NZ for about 2 days, I might pop out a review for it if you decide against it

    April 7 06:11 PM
  • NeutralThunder12 I could also say that The Afghan Whigs are pretty lame though.
    April 7 12:10 PM
  • NeutralThunder12 haha, I actually prefer John Lennon's solo work over the Beatles themselves, but thats just me. But I can't say that Brokencyde is better and can't see how anyone could even think to say such a thing.
    April 7 02:20 AM
  • Mars Blackmon Really? That's crazy. I heard Radiohead was amazing but just that one album changed you? I'll give it a listen then. Thanks though and keep up the good work.
    April 7 01:51 AM
  • NeutralThunder12 I feel the need to ask you a question: Did you really say that Brokencyde's album was better than any John Lennon one?
    April 5 11:28 PM
  • Deviant. http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review_35956 Could potentially be up your alley
    April 4 04:14 PM
  • Mars Blackmon and B music and stuff like that I couldnt ever get into any rock or guitar based music. Do you mind me asking how you went from listening to only black music to all kinds of different genres?
    April 2 07:34 PM
  • Mars Blackmon Hey Iai whats up? Listen I've been reading your reviews for awhile and I think youre an amazing reviewer. The one I liked the most was your Common-One Day It'll All Make Sense review where you said before you listened to hip hop you had trouble getting into music. I can exactly relate to what you were saying. Before I got into hip hop and R

    March 31 07:40 AM
  • Aids Hmm, I've never heard of any of those. Touche sir, maybe I'll check some of theirs out. Still, I love Chopin's.
    March 30 08:47 PM
  • Aids "Chopin - Nocturnes 2.5" No please no. Tell me you heard a really s***ty recording of it or something. I don't listen to a whole lot of classical but I think his nocturnes are brilliant.
    March 30 10:56 AM
  • Deviant. You just came across them recently? From memory I think I heard that album about 4-5 years ago. I still think it's aged amazingly well
    March 28 09:09 PM

    March 25 07:05 AM
  • OceanOfWisdom Well s*** man i cant find him anywhere on here - Could you or someone else with the ability, please the review I did for Sworn's "Bastards and Conquerors"? I unknowingly reviewed a new Graveworm album instead (long story), and am now catching ENORMOUS flak from all sides about it.

    March 3 03:39 AM
  • NeutralThunder12 by the way, while I disagree with your opinions, you are the best writer on the site :)
    March 2 02:03 AM
  • NeutralThunder12 haha, these are not my opinions, I made this account for a friend and he rated stuffs, most of it is his, I use it now. And lol you once asked why The Afghan Whigs did not receive the claim that Nirvana or Soundgarden did... it's because they aren't as good :)
    March 2 02:01 AM
  • NeutralThunder12 lol the Afghan Wigs
    March 1 12:55 AM
  • maidenpmcc DOn't get me wrong man, your review was nicely written. Yea you mean Lamentations being their first live album. I think its a good thing for bands to release live albums with various material on them. Look at Maiden, they have like 5-6 live albums and from different era's. I guessed Opeth just thought that since the performance that night was so TOP NOTCH in the Roundhouse and that were songs performed live such as Bleak and Ghost of Perdition, it would be appropriate.
    February 28 12:56 PM
  • maidenpmcc You know the way you said on Opeth's Roundhouse tapes review, Just one question: Why? What did you mean by that? They had to release a live album sometime and when they released that, it was as good a time as any other. Plus they have being going like 20 odd years so its not like they released the live cd/dvd just after a few years.
    February 27 07:21 PM
  • Bulldog Psst...Nick...user your magic powers to make another awesome review for another awesome hip-hop album.

    November 23 06:40 AM
  • TMobotron Yo Iai you were talking in that Atmosphere review about a paper 'How and Why Mainstream Hip-Hop Has Failed Us', Id love to read that if you would be willing to send that over to me somehow.
    November 20 11:12 AM
  • nodnerB I probably should, in fact I will. Expect a short reveiw for Shpongle's latest in the next week or two, paling in comparison to yours, oh almighty Iai.
    November 4 01:58 PM
  • Athom If I remember correctly there used to be a review for Van Morrison's Moondance. Now I don't know what happened to it, when it disappeared, or who wrote the missing review, but you could do a hell of a lot better than me at giving it the review it deserves (esp. given your soundoff).
    October 31 09:53 AM
  • Gyromania I have Facebook, and actually I have you on there as well, lol. The review might take a while to send, i'm finding that it's quite difficult to write and even more difficult to not repeat what you've said about the song.
    October 26 09:45 PM
  • Gyromania Writing a review for X Japan's Art of Life... I was hoping you could maybe give it a read over when I'm done and tell me what you think.
