| SlothcoreSam Yeah that Sad Park is very solid. If it came out 15 years ago it would have got a lot more traction around here.
| SlothcoreSam Sweet thanks, I haven't heard of them I'll check it out. You should check the new Restorations album, it's got a similar feel to SSoH.
| SlothcoreSam Sweet man, you got a good scene down there. Think it is time you organise a local festival. I'll buy a ticket
| SlothcoreSam What about Clipboards? they are from East Lansing, just put out a solid album a couple of weeks ago.
| SlothcoreSam You heard of The Casper Fight Scene? They are from Marquette, Michigan, you could do a gig together.
| Pheromone PITCCCCCCHHHHY final music league submission in tonight!
| SlothcoreSam Yo just replied to you on Discord. Also check out Clowns-Endless
| nuklearmoose Yo PitchforkArms! Saw your post on my page. That's so cool, if you guys record it or you get an arrangement going let me know, would love to hear it. Share some ideas maybe I can help too! I will also check out the Ferlin Husky track too.
| Hawks No problem bro! Keep on going, you guys are awesome!
| Hawks Bruh your band slayz and Leave Me for the Crows is exactly what I needed right now. Good stuff buddy!
| SlothcoreSam Yo, as you love Aesop so much, did you ever check out Sage Francis? His lyrics are just as witty and flow is so smooth. Especially his early work, recommend you start with Personal Journals
| JohnnyoftheWell HI thank you so much for expressing interest in Sputmix 2023! There is one (one!) bureaucracy barrier for you to overcome - please hit up this form and send your info over asap, so I can get a database going and pin down what this thing is gonna look like. Love! https://forms.gle/zkKtidhnXpgYUsUv5
| SlothcoreSam Small World indeed, thanks for sharing. Glad you had a couple of good shows, I look forward to seeing the YouTube footage. I'll check Dad Caps, sounds like it will be up my alley. Excited to hear you're new songs as well.
| ashcrash9 Oh nice! I recognize the cover and name but didn't realize it was another user's project. Will check out pronto! (Coincidentally I'm releasing an EP of my own tomorrow so here's a plug in exchange, this single for it's been up a couple weeks) https://theheistrevenge.bandcamp.com/track/greener-single
| You on discord? I don't really use much social media.
| SlothcoreSam It's freakin great man, well done. Followed on Spotify, so can't wait to see what else is coming.
| SlothcoreSam Cool I'm on it, I'll let you know what I think.
| Conmaniac hey for my comp it?s gotta be a 2023 rec! Just a heads up
| SlothcoreSam Yeah, keeps life pretty interesting. Lots of great outdoor activities to do here in the summer, mtbiking, hiking, kayaking, fishing, hunting, etc. But the winters can be long, freezing and dark.
| SlothcoreSam My lady, her dad's Australian, we me at university, but her mother's side is First Nation Canadian, so we came back to work with the local indigenous communities. It's pretty spectacular up here, but very remote.
| SlothcoreSam No one comes to the Yukon, I've been here on and off for 15 years, and the only out of territory good I went to was Henry Rollins spoken word. The White Stripes once played here. I try and see at least one gig in Vancouver, and a festival in the states once a year, so I might catch you guys one day. But haven't since Covid. I did see These New South Whales in Australia when I was back home last month, they are awesome live, very underrated here.
| SlothcoreSam Oh sweet, fun times. Shame I don't live closer. I'll just have to check the footage online.
| SlothcoreSam Oh yeah, Throw me in the River is a classic, plus it's a grower. I Love Life is the best closer. Wil is a great song writer, his early material has some great lyrics, the newer stuff has better song structure. Is SSoH doing and summer gigs?
| SlothcoreSam Yo, check the new album by Life In Vacuum-Lost. Massive early PUP vibes on half the tracks, but unique in others.
| Mort. still waiting on your review for the random album game!!
| Mort. Lol no worries dude, its very little stress for me really
| SlothcoreSam What, Master Volume doesn't have a review yet? That was one of my top albums of 2018. I'll take that one. I'll let Mort know.
| Mort. you have replied to sam in your own shoutbox. reply in their shoutbox you silly goose
| PitchforkArms HAHAHA!!!!!!! I appreciate the honesty. Mind if I ruminate on it for the night?
| SlothcoreSam Yo, I was lucky, or unlucky enough to get you in the random review have. But I tapped out on Billie Holiday, it be like asking my 95 year old grandmother to review the latest Kendrick album. So Mort said to give me something else to review. And not so hard, I'm not a good writer. Lol
| Sowing OK I have something relatively brief, let me know a good email to reach you at!
| Sowing I'll see what I can do! Stuff's been extra hectic lately but I should have a few windows to try to get you something!
| Sowing I'll definitely try to if there's not a pressing deadline! What were you thinking in terms of length and date needed?
| Storm In A Teacup Yo dude I owe you an apology. I was supposed to be your secret Santa and submitted the album two hours late. It was going to be the album Satelitte Years by hopesfall
| combustion07 s*** the rhythm guitar sounds pretty good to me too man don't sell yourself short! And I'm definitely planning on hopping back on Chivalry soon. Been playing through Red Dead so I had to axe it to have the space for it but once I'm done I'm definitely gonna reinstall it. Once I do if you're trying to play I'll definitely add ya on there
| SlothcoreSam Glad you can find some stuff on their you dig. It's not as diverse as previous years, but you can probably see where my tastes lie.
| combustion07 Just wanna say I've been thoroughly enjoying that album you dropped this year man! Some really solid guitar part sprinkled throughout
| Kompys2000 SHOOT egg all over my face I will run that up the flagpole and see what can be done I've heard the blog can be finicky so major apologies in advance if we can't get it sorted (we should be able to though lol)
| SlothcoreSam That's the rough top 20. I will end up doing a top 300 this year. Just have to get the rest in order.I've been doing this for about 20 years.
| SlothcoreSam Yo, check my top songs of the year, it's a countdown, so the last song is number 1. You might be pleasantly surprised. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4yKgkSpsl9V8v5wjFSwZKq?si=t9u7-sa2QhWQjVpLtvbDwg
| Pangea Friendly reminder that i still need your secret santa rec! only a few days left
| AsleepInTheBack It?s on my to-cram list don?t worry fella, will give it a whirl x
| SlothcoreSam Throw me in the river is a front to back album, you need to take the time to listen to it in one spin.
| SlothcoreSam Yeah man glad you dig, that was peak Smithies for me. Throw Me in The River is also a classic. The 2 newest albums have gone a little more emo indie punk, but the addition of the two female backing vocalists give it a different feel, kinda like what you've done with SSoH, but they made them official members.
| SlothcoreSam Oh yeah I get that, I'm the same way with pop punk, and 2000s emo, anything that is overly produced and artificial, I hate with a passion. The 2010s Midwest emo kinda saved the scene.
| SlothcoreSam Wow, small world. Let me know what you think of the EP
| SlothcoreSam Hey, have you heard of the band Tournament, out of Lansing? Got a pretty cool brand of emo punk, with a country twaaaaang to it.
| YakNips I?m chilling bro. Finally getting back to making music and it feels great. How have you been?
| SlothcoreSam Hey man, I'm way up north in The Yukon. Before Covid, I used to get down to the states once or twice a year for some gigs or festivals, but haven't lately. Plus we have a 6 month at home, so have to recalibrate our future travel plans.
| hogan900 Haha I'm a sucker for duet vocals, and you guys used it pretty damn well! Hope to hear more of that for the future.
| Sowing I think the praise is well-deserved. I'm mostly an old school pop punk fan but your debut really grabbed me. It's got an awesome blend of intensity, emotion, and melody. Stay tuned for my year end list because it will be on there somewhere! Keep up the great work!
| hogan900 Good work on the album man! Enjoyed it a ton!
| GaugeOT Jordan. Haven?t been on here in years but Nick showed me the LP and weve been cranking for the last few days. Impressed enough to make sure it gets a rating since i know you?re a user on here lol. I?ll see you at that show at the end of the month
| Atari I know you're probably getting antsy but would you mind sending me an email with the lyrics for Starting? cheers. I'll most likely be finalizing the review tonight. Sloth contributed some words as well ;)
| SlothcoreSam Hey man you deserve all the praise, this s*** owns!
| Atari can you send me your first and last name, as well as the credentials/names for the rest of the band? unless ofc you'd rather keep that private and out of the review. if you'd like you can email me at atari857@outlook.com instead of the shoutbox
| YoYoMancuso great work on the record man, and congratulations on the release!
| Atari Hey thanks for the detailed replies!! This is some killer stuff. You?ll just have to bear with me as I?ve been sick and work?s been crazy but looking forward to digesting the album more over the next few days
| Atari Are you the vocalist or what instruments do you play? Also let me know if there?s a concept or specific inspiration behind the album.. or anything else you want me to know about it ;)
| Atari cheers!!! first song July actually reminded me a bit of Spanish Love Songs a bit which is a very good thing
| Atari Indeed, send it over whenever you?d like and hopefully it will connect with me :]
| Atari yep I'm definitely interested! like I said no promises but I'll def do my best to cover it if possible
| Atari hey there!! what's the name of your band and when is the album dropping? don't want to make any promises just yet as I'm pretty busy lately but I'll be more than happy to at least give it a listen
| DadKungFu Didn't interact with Papa Universe much directly but what I've heard from others is that he had some unnamed medical issue that he said he should have checked out way sooner, presumably cancer.
| Papa Universe well that's a heck of a coincidence. I might pen up a review for the 2-tracker, but I haven't done any reviews in a while. kinda burnt out a bit right now. a short one might be exactly what will fire me back up. will see.
| MarsKid Hope you liked the review, you've got a nice project my man. Keep at it.
| MarsKid Got a little write-up prepared for tomorrow, keep your eyes peeled.
| MarsKid I'll get to it as soon as I can
| MarsKid Damn dude, that means a lot that you'd think of me. And it sounds like something I'd be down for! I'll give it a go
| teamster Hey brother, I am filling out Locktender's band profile on another webzine. For the life of me I can't find the band members names and what instruments they play. Can you help me out?
| Feather Ayyyyy I just graduated with a degree in ISE!
| 50iL Nice bro, I'll try to spin it sooner rather than later ;)
| Trebor. Yeah hit me up with it. I'll try to review it, I can't guarantee I'll have anything to say about it before I hear it but I'll give it my best shot
| Mort. i got that wayne szalinski album in the random album game, ****ing brilliant so far nice pick
| ExplosiveOranges Good to have you back, man! Got promoted back in late February.
| Judio! Cool man, glad you think so! :D Honestly I'm more proud of it than any solo album I've released in the past.
| YakNips welllll my fave of the year is new elvis depressedly but i also love the new pinkshinyultrablast, viet cong (u might have already heard that), black howling, via fondo, joanne robertson, gay kiss, ghost bath, addaura, lytta, etc.

| YakNips goddamn looks awesome, bookmarked, excited to jam
| Judio! That's awesome dude! I probably wouldn't last five minutes in an engineering school lol.
| Judio! Arizona State University. Going to the business school there. You?
| Judio! I can't wait to jam it either! tbh I started college last week so I'm not as up to date on new releases as most people.
| Judio! Oh yeah? What've you been producing?
| Artuma nah didn't check palm reader yet but it really seems to be right up my alley
| Artuma yea man, it just gets easily overshadowed by the epic metal sections in the album
| Artuma dude i love the part in and with her came the birds where klas sings the line you took your username from
| Artuma thanks for the rec and yea rip opeth soundoff

| SadAndHolyGlow Nice. I'll try to give some of those a listen. Are you still Plugging? I'm thinking of doing it again.
| Hawks **** yeah, one of my favorite albums. Also get Mabool by Orphaned Land.
| SadAndHolyGlow Nice, man. And I haven't really been paying too much attention to new releases honestly. Any special ones to report?
| Hawks Listen to Silent Waters by Amorphis.
| Hawks Post metal is very hit or miss for me, but yeah I dig that one.
| SadAndHolyGlow Hey! I've been around. I haven't been nearly as involved with Sputnik lately as I used to be. How've you been?
| Judio! Makes sense to me, I already know you're a ****ing awesome writer and I didn't even read your newest review haha. Your Locktender review is brilliant
| Judio! Cool, glad you liked the game! And I'll read over your review tomorrow night, have a lot of s*** going on right now and I can't read anyone's reviews right now sadly :(
| Subho Hope you like Silverline's Lights Out album. Look forward to the review
| YakNips thanks yo im an MS Paint artist
| Judio! You totally should! Probably the most underrated album of the year so far imo.
| Judio! No problem. The formatting wasn't that big of a deal, incorrect use of quotation marks is just a pet peeve of mine ;)
| Judio! Thanks man! And I left you some feedback on your review.
| YakNips Yea I've been meaning to, it's p much Locktender before they were Locktender right?
| Judio! Sure thing, I'll look it over when I get home.
| Brostep I tried most of it on for size, but metal isn't quite my forte so most of it went unappreciated (if not unheard)
| Sowing Hey man thanks. I'll listen as soon as I have a chance!
| Brostep probably once Sowing sends his stuff. so far I haven't rejected any submission (and yours is currently edited in and waiting to go), and I hope to keep it that way (and therefore will wait till the last possible moment to get all submissions down)
| YakNips yeah man Im glad I finally checked it out, one of the best things Ive heard this year
| YakNips Im jamming Rodin, damn that 20 minute song is so aweosme
| Lord(e)Po)))ts 5/5's for me. also dunno if you saw this; http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=1042215
| Lord(e)Po)))ts of COURSE dude. ok so my favourite hip hop track of all time Slum Village - The Look of Love. The album is produced by J Dilla. Moving On, Afu-Ra - Whirlwind Thru Cities, Binary Star - The Evolution of Man, Souls of Mischief - '93 Til Infinity, The Pharcyde - 4 Better or 4 Worse, Smif-N-Wessun - K.I.M., InI - To Each His Own, Blu - Everybody Nose, Mobb Deep - Trife Life. Honestly I could keep going for a while so I'm just gonna stop but pretty much all the albums those songs are from are
| Lord(e)Po)))ts i cant dude i cant pick a fav can i just rec you a few of my favourite hip hop songs?
| Judio! :D Thanks man, glad you liked it!
| Judio! www.sugarysweetmachines.bandcamp.com Be sure to tell me what you think after you jam it. :)
| Judio! Yeah dude, that's my solo project. I also have an industrial/post-rock band with Laughingman22 as well.
| Judio! Yeah i totally dig it, and those drums sounded pretty nice . Since we're on the subject, out of curiosity have you ever listened to any of my stuff?
| Judio! Nope, you never showed me that song before haha. I really dig it dude, can't wait to hear a whole album by you guys. What instrument do you play in your band?
| Judio! For you dude, I just might. Unfortunately I won't be able to this week so you're going to have to be a bit patient. But that's cool you have a band, never knew you were a musician!
| Relinquished cool dude. I love mass III. my wife and I are im the church too.
| BigPleb All the tracks rule tbh, the first half is the stronger of the two imo
| BigPleb Just DL from here man: http://www37.zippyshare.com/v/53815509/file.html
| danielito19 you got the best cross section of sputnik with that list damn
| AffableMartyr Thanks man I dig this for sure. How'd u know I like coheed!
| scottpilgrim10 You're a really cool/ good person for making a list for Yak (Did you that or something?) plus one of your favorite bands is the Streelight Mainfesto which is really awesome. You are definitely worthy of a nomination.
| YakNips You still doing drums for those songs yeah?
| ZombicidalMan I honestly haven't checked it out yet, but it's the first thing on my list man. I can't stop listening to Kafka so I'll probably love it
| JohnnyoftheWell But yet, but I'm planning on doing so - is it better than Kafka?
| Avagantamos yeah they have more of a sound like Botch and Isis and just as good as either of them
| Avagantamos awesome dude! it's a totally killer album and needs more attention on this site
| YakNips these are the two covers https://soundcloud.com/airwar-1/teen-suicide-benzo https://soundcloud.com/yaknips/ddr-pad and the two originals https://teensuicide.bandcamp.com/track/benzo-2 https://teensuicide.bandcamp.com/track/haydens-getting-a-ddr-pad
| Avagantamos I downloaded Kafka a while ago. I'll give it a spin
| Avagantamos unfortunately I don't think they will ever reach the level again that they did on their earlier material.
| Judio! Ok man just looked it over. I liked your review, I left you some feedback in the comments :]
| Judio! Oh yeah sure dude, I totally forgot. Will look it over for you once I get home.
| Rowan5215 Really nice job man there was some great atmosphere going on there
| StallionMang Sweet I'll be the first to check it out, and no problem man keep up the great work!
| StallionMang Wow dude that was seriously great stuff, when's the full-length coming out?
| StallionMang Ooh yeah I remember you talking about that, I'll give it a listen
| fr33convict yeah i'd try to see about getting a 6505.. or maybe see if you can find something like a blackstar ht-40 combo used around your price range.
| fr33convict You said you mainly play prog metal kinda stuff, right? If you're looking for a combo, a Peavey 6505 is like the gold standard for modern metal and they make a 1x12 combo right at $600.
| fr33convict Hey I saw your post in the guitar thread and I'm kind of a gear freak so I figured I might be able to help lol. What kinda budget do you have for this combo amp?
| fr33convict donate his collection of waves plug-ins to me when he switched to a 64-bit setup so I've been very blessed with decent tools.
| fr33convict Yeah essentially all of my EQ work so far has been "de-junking" and sculpting/filtering the elements to fit with together without any major problematic overlaps. Very little emphasis has been placed on trying to make the individual pieces sound good. I guess this must have just slipped past me. I'll definitely try to track it down. And thanks, man! I'm running Logic as my DAW currently and relying basically entirely on third party plugs for the work. A friend of mine was very kind enough to
| fr33convict Thanks for the tip and listening, man. It's the little stuff that's gonna make the difference at this point, I think. I'll try to hunt down whatever's going rogue on those vocals tomorrow morning. So, just to be sure, you only picked up on it on the verse or was it throughout the song as well?
| SadAndHolyGlow Completely agree. I'm excited for the new album, though.
| SadAndHolyGlow http://www.sputnikmusic.com/news/28993/New-Living-Sacrifice-Song/
| fr33convict https://soundcloud.com/golgathaband/fata-morgana-mix-1/s-kh4q2
| Judio! Hey, man. Yeah, Symbolic didn't really do it for me. I think I might enjoy it if I give it another listen, but it didn't "wow" me that much when I listened to it. As for CoB, it's really great that you want to get into them, they are one of the best metal bands out there in my opinion. Bodom's later stuff (AYDY through RRF) is more thrashy and bland, so I'd recommend staying away from those. Listen to Follow the Reaper, Hatebreeder first. Those 2 albums are both 5/5 classics in my opinion.
| SadAndHolyGlow Dang. "Recursions" was one solid piece of progressive metal. 4/5 for me. Although the production is definitely amateur, it doesn't hamper the music from being as genius as it is. I will be listening to this for many days to come. Thanks for introducing me to them!
| SadAndHolyGlow No problem. "The Hammering Process" is my favorite album by them. I've listened to all of their stuff pretty much and they're one of my faves. I'm listening to the Cryptodira this afternoon for sure. I listened to the first song last night and it was really good. Expecting great things.
| SadAndHolyGlow I'll get on it. By the way, if this piques your curiosity a bit more, Living Sacrifice has two drummers, which I always thought was awesome.
| SadAndHolyGlow I have a rec for YOU now since you love "Precambrian." A lot of the playing styles reminded me a lot of the material on Living Sacrifice's "The Hammering Process." Near-perfect album as well. Check it out!
| SadAndHolyGlow Wow. "Precambrian" was pretty much perfect for me. Well-paced, well-played, and very creative progressive metal. 4.5 for me. Thanks so much for reminding me about them! I had seen them live a month ago at the Summer Slaughter Tour and they killed it. A long album, but it was time well spent.
| SadAndHolyGlow I'm going with your seventh rec: The Ocean - "Precambrian." Your comment technically was 7th, because there were some inbetween of just stupid jibber-jabber. This album has been in my YouTube watch later list for a while now. I'll let you know what I think!
| DecayingMajesty Happy birthday dude, how does it feel to be 18? I'm only 14 so i wouldn't know lol
| Gnocchi www.thesonicsensory.wordpress.com/join-the-team
| RogueNine GaugeOT was talking about how impressive you guys were at the Locktender show.
| RogueNine Hey man, I hear you're a member of Roots and Ruins? Your style of music is right up my alley. Let me know when your first release arrives and I'll spin it!
| SadAndHolyGlow No worries, bro. Awesome! Let me know when it's out and I'll give your Bandcamp page a visit.
| SadAndHolyGlow You opened for Locktender? :D What's the name of your band?
