3.8 excellentmanosg EMERITUS | December 19th 17

Quality proto-heavy metal with progressive tendencies which brings to mind the less heavy moments of Uriah Heep, early-Jethro Tull, some Wishbone Ash or maybe a couple of obscure - but still awesome - bands from the early '80s such as Ashbury and Winterhawk. Nevertheless, the emphasis here should not be on the instrumentation per se but at the hazy, dream-like experience these guys create on this magical journey of an album. As good as retro rock gets.

Ah yes, yes yes yeeeeees. Exactly what one could have hoped for from the first EP. This is now superbly well produced whilst retaining all of its catchy qualities and building up on them. Sure the influences aren't concealed for one bit, sure some of the vox are a liiiittle too much (like I actually laughed a bit on 2), sure it gets a bit excessive at times (4 is a bit overwhelming), but man isn't it awesome and diverse. Transports you to other places whilst churning out tunes. What truly bumps it to 4.0 tier for me is, of course, STAAAAR RIDAH, but also the fact that the closing track is an excellent instrumental conclusion to close the epic with great panache, which really makes the album feels like a story and not just songs lined up one after the other. Great and might grow on me tbh. 3.8

Dudes from the 2010s thinking they're proggy hard rockers from the 70s. They modified their formula with some nice touches here and there: there are slight psych influences, as well as organ parts adding textures and giving the whole lot an atmospheric feel, and last but not least, they know how to be catchy. I do however find some passages to be either mere 70s prog ripoffs or totally cheesy (sometimes it's both at the same time). But it's not important, 'cause STAAAAAAAAR RIIIIIIDERRRR. (it does totally eclipse all other songs tho). Edit: yeah it do really be good.

Tough album for me to get in, but with right mindset and inputs (doc on yt) I get these guys a pre
much the real deal here...great journey of an album! Very retro, but where I listened to early
Genesis/ Jethro I now see me passing through The Doors, Dire Straits, some folk, some of the
HardRock epicness I normally despise and in here I love, and yeah some modern music as well.
Vocalist has a lot of character and requires habit, he's a young dude with a voice of an older
man. Star Rider is an amazing track.

This album is just simply fantastic. I see why does Fenriz love them so much. The 70s have been born again, and this doesn't sound any dusty at all. These guys are super talented - the proggy touch and those synths are fascinating. And I must confess: I fell in love with 'Star Rider' on my very first listen.
