3.0 good | DWittisarockstar | August 20th 08 | Clearly progressive music. The Human Abstract has evolved and morphed into the face of new music. This album is unique and finally separates them from Protest the Hero, who copies them in absolutely every way. The lyrics are groundbreaking and the vocals, despite what others say, rival the technical and aural reverie of Craig Owens or Dennis Lee. This album is hard to handle because of the sheer complexity and uniqueness of it, but it is an important album not only to rock, but to music as a whole. Truly groundbreaking.

3.5 great | PeterKarlster | December 24th 21 | I'm very surprised by the overall rating of this album, but it is what it is, I guess it's simply not for everybody. I actually discovered the band with this album, I then listened to the other two albums but they did't sink in as much as Midheaven.rThis album, especially for the time, was very audacious, I can hear vocal influences such as Brand New, Coheed, Nine Inch Nails & I really appreciate it. The vocal quality is especially good in Violent Strike and Dead World at Sunrise. Great lyrics for all songs as well.rThe overall production, sound wise, is meh in my opinion. Better than Nocturne, but still meh. Hopeless Records had a hard time with production in this era. The problem with this album is that there are very good parts which makes it memorable, but they're kind of "hidden" in the middle of the songs, so many listeners might lose interest before actually understand the songs.rOverall I personally think that this album is underrated, but I understand that fans of the "Nocturne" album might not like this one, totally different direction, but a direction that suits my musical taste.

2.0 poor | maninthebox | December 31st 14 | Easily one of the most pretentious things I've ever listened to. There are certain ways to combine metal and alt rock...this is definitely not it. Sounds like Dillinger had an autistic kid with Incubus and not the savant kind. The vocalist must've thought he was Mike Patton before going in to record this, Patton would eat this little shit for breakfast. ...Okay I'm done with the insults. But seriously the vocalist practically single handedly ruined this album.

2.0 poor | Jared Floryan | September 11th 14 | California-based progressive metalcore group The Human Abstract were quite an entertaining bunch of musicians if Nocturne and Digital Veil were anything to go by. Though not flawless records, they're both equally pleasurable, especially regarding guitarist A.J. Minette's contributions to the band. THA's second full-length album was recorded without his input, with the end result being the ensemble's worst release. Entitled Midheaven, it's here where the entourage had dumbed down the more wizard-esque aspects of Nocturne in exchange for a relatively melodic approach to their sound while keeping an extremely low amount of aggression. I originally thought this band's sophomore album wasn't as bad as many people on Sput have made it out to be, but I've basically reconsidered as of late. Wallowing in flamboyance alongside possessing uninspired craftsmanship, Midheaven is a slump, plain and simple. 3-4 passable songs are not enough to make Human Abstract's second LP redeemable in nearly every sense of the word. Unlike its predecessor, not even ex-vocalist Nathan Ells gets off scot-free here; it would've been better for these guys to have this one exclusively instrumental - or perhaps they shouldn't have churned out Midheaven in the first place. Angel recommends: "A Violent Strike," "Breathing Life Into Devices," "Metanoia," and "A Dead World at Sunrise".

0.0 | Camstr | March 24th 12 | A certain musical prodigy is missing on this release and it shows. However, there are some really great moments here and the more I listen to it the more I'm starting to like the moments that at first listen made me cringe.

2.5 average | AnEpicDeath | December 7th 11 | It certainly has some flaws (most noticeably, the vocals can be just horrendously off at points), but really is not nearly as bad as its reputation suggests. The classical approach was effectively left behind on this disc in favor of some sort of off-kilter hard rock/alternative sensibility. Tracks generally place more emphasis on piano and vocals than Nocturne. The guitar is still quite excellent for the most part, though AJ's presence is certainly missed. Though the vocals are occasionally awful, they are usually appropriate and pleasant, and are often the most memorable aspect of songs.

1.5 very poor | InFiction | August 20th 11 | Though musically and vocally competent, Midheaven is weighed down by its atrocious songwriting and lyrical content. It might not necessarily be one of the worst albums I've ever heard, but it's truly one of the most disappointing.

2.0 poor | gravediggerfuneral | August 3rd 11 | One of the worst metalcore albums ever released. The lyrics are juvenile, the vocals are whiny, and the guitars have lost all technical aspects. Very poor album.

1.5 very poor | wearebeggarsall | June 30th 11 | Only one to describe my feelings here: give me that ten minutes of my life back, the only
ten I could stand before I deleted this from my hard drive. A miserable turn for this group
that I'm glad they bounced back from.

2.0 poor | MopHeadOvMetal | May 30th 11 | Thanks to vocal performance on this album, we all know that Nathan f*cking sucks now. I'm glad he's gone. There are probably one or two listenable tracks on here that still have poor vocal performances.

3.0 good | Hastetheday09 | February 24th 09 | Even though this looks like a terrible album, to me it's not that bad. The vocals get really annoying on this album, way more than on Nocturne. And with A.J. out of the picture, the guitar quality has gone down. But that doesn't mean the new one is bad. He can still play and occasionally shred, but it doesn't happen often. But with A.J. gone it seems like their going in a different direction, and I respect that, but they should have tried a lot harder to make it sound better, some songs are good for a short time, but it gets ruined by not-thought-out songwriting.

2.5 average | stephenhannibal | August 22nd 08 | This album has some amazing musicianship... but that's about it.
none of the songs are very interesting... if anything let play in the background and let the occasional part catch ya other than that don't bother.
