Need to counter the other gushing soundoffs here. With this album its finally happened. After a long, historical (legendary even) career, it's finally happened. Mike Patton is washed up. His voice, of course, is still as strong as ever, and good for him for that. But his creativity is gone. Some of these tunes (particularly the opener SHHH!) are so painfully uninspired, tepid, and ultimately forgettable that it actually hurts. There are a couple signs of life in the instrumentals, but they are few and far between. As for Patton, he has simply pulled some old, dusty tools out of his tool kit, hurriedly applied them to the present project and is now, I'm sure, rushing off to record the new Fantomas album since after FNM, Mr. Bungle, and now Tomahawk, that's the next band of his that needs updating. Autopilot 101.
