1.5 very poor | grandfather | October 21st 22 | Lots of loud sounds with less than zero substance. A million bands have done this sound and almost all of them better, and they still mostly suck. The only unique selling point this band offers is the "omg he sounds like an animal!" breakdowns that could only feasibly excite a 16 year old and a couple of good guitar solos. This is a continuation of that EP with the good album art: comically overlong songs with dogshit production, drums the drummer definitely can't play live, dickless riffs buried under a layer of static and tired as fuck chugs.r

4.0 excellent | LoganTheGinger | October 18th 22 | This album is excellent with Will's fantastic growls and screams. Austin is off the charts with the drumming I don't how he does it. Adam is a beast at the guitar his solos are so emotional and shook me to the core. My only problem is how similar each song is. Even though each song has its quirks and some are more melodic than others it's still samsey at moments but other than that this is a fantastic album. Listen to this if you haven't.

1.0 awful | ajcollins15 | October 19th 22 | Come on people, deathcore died for a reason and it?s bullshit like this that did it. Overly produced, one-dimensional, and extremely cocky symphonic deathcore that can?t touch a toe to the greats and doesn?t have enough of the bombastic and over-the-top nature of modern deathcore. This is more of old heads wanting a ?classic? deathcore album but forgetting that there is a lot better out there today.

2.5 average | MalConstant | October 14th 22 | Lorna Shore Formula: major scale synth melody + double bass with blasts + 808 bass drops for breakdowns + deathcore vox + 250bpm pedal point riffs.
Nothing about this really works for me except for Will's vocals.

3.1 good | Erwann S. STAFF | October 17th 22 | Blackened sympho deathcore? These young lads don't know what to invent any more. What makes this s/t special is the vocalist's performance: he often sounds devilish, at times goblinish, sometimes very balrogish, and it somewhat enhances the almost-constantly-present big stringz. As a non-deathcore aficionado and power & sympho metal anti-aficionado, this was alright despite the ridiculous amount of cheese and chuggy chugs chugs - thanks again to that howler of them.

2.5 average | ProphetNimd | October 14th 22 | Just finished my first listen so this could certainly change but I really wanted to like this more. Half the album was already released forever ago and at least two of those singles are boring enough to be cut (Sun/Eater and Cursed to Die). Will is crazy but there's just no real pacing in this at all. It just feels like a bunch of songs with similar intensity, even if the tempos slow down a few times. Pain Remains 1 is still great but I am so. sick. of their style of breakdown. Literally the same note they chug the whole album for every single breakdown and I am beyond over it. I was totally on board with them after To the Hellfire but this is really underwhelming imo.

2.5 average | Halez | March 31st 23 | "Oooh, a cool symphonic/melodic idea! I know what can make it better! An out of nowhere,
momentum-killing breakdown that's not even in time with the rest of the song with zero build!"
This happens more than it should on this album. If more of it was like the trilogy of tracks at
the end and "Soulless Existence", I'd get the hype, but a lot of the breakdowns genuinely just
sound forced to hit a "deathcore quota" and ultimately, get in the way of some cool ideas. Also,
the production is terrible. Vinyl rip's better, but the digital version clips so much I thought
my headphones were broken.

2.0 poor | Gary STAFF | December 8th 22 | The concept of doing something as "sympho-blackened-deathcore" doesn't sound so bad, but holy shit, the production on this record is fucking disgusting! Especially this plastic drum sound makes me wanna puke. Not to mention, the record feels a bit one-dimensional.

3.5 great | Comatorium. | October 15th 22 | It?s great but entirely too long, no one needs 64 minutes of this straight. Should?ve taken to the hellfire, the opener and the title tracks here and made a sick ass mini album

3.0 good | Vanilla Scoop Rangler (don\'t come near me I have a gun) | October 14th 22 | Even the emotional songs sounded the same. It's like watching a Lego movie before The Lego Movie released: Oh yeah they have different characters from different movies or shows, different plotlines, but in the end, IT'S AN UNDERBUDGET LEGO MOVIE!!!r

4.0 excellent | XSebbyMcMuffinX | October 17th 22 | So I honestly like this more than any other Lorna Shore release. I don't know why, after multiple albums of the same sound, this one somehow feels less generic to me. It still has similar flaws to every other release, but I feel like the overall dynamics flow together a little more naturally, whereas on their last EP, it felt more like a mix and match of elements that theoretically work based on past experience, but don't actually correlate in specificity to elevate and distinguish each particular track. I think there's still room for improvement, though, if they try to carve a new coinciding niche at SOME point in the future. Because doing the same exact sound is most definitely going to get old for people who aren't hardcore into the genre. They're great at tempo / feel switches mid-breakdown, but it could indeed use more tonal variation instead of just feeling like a pummelling wall of single-note crunch every time. At least the elements are functioning properly here. It is a long album, but I'm fine with taking that as a reason to split my listening experience with the 3-song closer feeling separate.

4.5 superb | iGuter | October 16th 22 | An exhilarating, heart-pounding and adrenaline fueled album that?s epic and raw with emotion. Lorna Shore have completely outdone themselves once again, but this time, they?ve made something that can?t and won?t quit bringing the brutal sound mixed with some of the best produced/gorgeous, symphonies. A lot of arguments could be made for some of its repetition; but, honestly, the repetition plays off in newer directions that keep the overarching theme feel like a complete, conceptual, experience as a whole. It?s a huge contender for one of the best metal albums of 2022, and, personally one of my favorites of the year.

4.5 superb | Piem | April 2nd 24 | This album just works. Sure, many of the songs run a similair pattern, but as long as it is executed correctly that shouldn't matter. The riffs, the melodies, the druns, the production, the vocals, the symphonic elements and the fantastic closing trillogy. This album is superb.

4.2 excellent | Trey STAFF | January 13th 23 | Listening to Pain Remains is like watching a top-tier action blockbuster. Whether or not that appeals to you will depend on your opinion of bombast, excess, and chaos because everything has been dialed up to eleven. The symphonic elements have gone from an interesting augmentation to an enormous and fully realized facet of Lorna Shore's sound. The guitar melodies are much more prominent and memorable, the solos are classy and impassioned, and the drums dominate with fills, blast beats, and a near unrelenting wall of double bass. The breakdowns, too, are enormous and crushing providing momentary respites from the deathcore chugs, melodic black metal riffs, and brief technical flourishes. There are also the huge dynamic shifts that can transition from the most delicate of keyboard melodies all the way to huge crushing riffs, which help to deliver a stunning array of varied emotions. Of course, there's also the vocals of Will Ramos, and they've absolutely been dialed to eleven. From soft whispers to creepy spoken word to guttural death growls and high-pitched black metal screeches, Will Ramos is all over the vocal spectrum. With the release of Pain Remains, Lorna Shore have proven the hype they've received over the last few years is entirely justified, and that is why this is easily my favorite album of the year.

5.0 classic | 21HillZK | January 6th 23 | Probably the best deathcore album I have ever heard. I love Lorna Shore's symphonic deathcore vibe, Will Ramos' vocals are brilliant and the Pain Remains trilogy is an artistic masterpiece. Incredible, best album of the year without a doubt.

3.5 great | Malcontent | January 3rd 23 | Sorry haters, this rules. Don't really care if it's not original or unique, it targets the lizard part of my brain that wants something loud and extraordinarily, melodramatically dramatic. The music equivalent of getting real high and blasting an hour away playing Doom.

3.5 great | iamSeraph | December 5th 22 | Pros - great technicality all-around, very versatile vocals, sick solos, some good songwriting ideas, sporadic bombast-feel of certain tracks. Cons - way too long, bad production, songs get samey after repeated listens, synths are overdone and annoying as hell, slightly uninspired breakdowns that seem to follow the same formula over and over. If you want better Death in your Deathcore but remain as technical, maybe give Brand of Sacrifice or Archspire a go. If you want better Core in your Deathcore and tone the instrumental wankery down a notch, try Thy Art Is Murder. All three are slightly better imho and just make music that is more consistent. Lorna Shore want too much at once here for my taste. That being said, Pain Remains is not a bad record by any means. I've just head better Deathcore albums during my lifetime.

2.5 average | mauRo13 | December 2nd 22 | Lorna of Intent? the "God Of War" symphonies have already been seen in previous bands, they do not offer anything new, there is talent but there is no 'spark' as they say, everything is so forced, mainly the breakdowns, Dickie Allen is better than Will Ramos and Travys Ryan is the father of these.
