i couldn't agree more chimera908. its almost like rudess is too good for the band. moore kept everyone a little restricted in terms of wankery.

The Dark Eternal Night is the worst song i've ever heard by Dream Theater. It's soooooo long and annoying and WON'T END!!!!!

EDIT:

"You were too hard on this album. "

Nope, he was completely right. One of DT's worst, most boring wank albums ever. I actually do like Dream Theater though. At least up until Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. But even on their best albums they sometimes lapse back in to endless noodling. Sometimes having a band of virtuoso's on every instrument isn't enough. This Message Edited On 08.23.07

This seems to be an album that people either love or hate. There are a few in the middle, but it seems like the majority fall on either side of the fence. I guess thats sort of like the band themselves in a way.[/quote]

Which explains why the reviews provided are either 4-4.5, or 2. Deffinitely a love hate album. I personally love it, although it easily gets the prize as the most cheesy DT album.

their lead singer is just aweful.

As a strong fan of this band, I get so used to people hating on James. In my opinion he is one of the most underrated vocalists of our generation.

I disagree, but it's a really good review. I really don't understand why you think LaBrie sounds like Hetfield, but it was funny to read.

LaBrie is the opposite of Hetfield in actual talent and sound,

but when it comes to people hating their vocals, they sure are similar.

I kinda like them so much better when LaBrie shuts the hell up. so I love when they go meandering on their guitars. The ministry of lost souls is really good throughout the whole thing. and I really like it better even when it picks up into the whole "wankery" business (wtf does masturbating have to do with guitars? srsly)

Great album. Taken a different step in terms of their sound but still a great metal prog album. Opening track is epic!

Does anyone else burst with rage during the part of Dark Eteranl Night when whe lyrics are "speak of the terrible danger"?

I disagree with your overall rating, but your get your points across very well.

However, I couldn't agree more about The Ministry Of Lost Souls. Cut it down to 7 mins and it's magnificent, but the instrumental parts just get boring, which I never, ever thought I'd say about DT seeing as my favourite songs of theirs are Erotomania and Stream Of Consciousness. This Message Edited On 02.04.09

Not their best work but still not in 100% concordance with this review, very well-written though it is

Actually I'd say that any album with Labrie from Images and Words to Train of Thought is damn solid (FiI the least of course). Haven't bothered with WDaDU and ACoS for some reason.

I'd definately agree with that, although I thought ToT was kind of a bonehead album at times.

WDaDU has some great instrumental sections but is ruined by the original singer (and poor production quality). Check out the live Tokyo version of "Only a Matter of Time". It's obviously got Labrie and it's pretty sweet. As for ACoS, you definately need to check out the title track. I never bothered listening to the rest. Probably rubbish. This Message Edited On 03.07.09

I have it on Live at Budokan (cd). Sounds different from most of the other songs on there but it's pretty good. But that whole live album is excellent.
