i guess a very broad comparison would be Isis playing atmospheric metalcore... but if you're not a fan of metalcore, don't let that put you off, because it's not metalcore in the sense of all the "NWOAHM" and all that.
i'm pretty sure you could order this fairly cheaply on the internet. HMV carries it over here, so it'll be on their website.

this is a truly fantastic record, my review will before the week is up! xo

This was a well written review. Other than that, it hits way off from the actual music. There is nothing ambient or atmospheric about this band. Their songs are mostly just muddy chords with some annoying screaming and singing and the ocassional stop for a a few quiet chords. I at least expected them to build some feeling with the quiet parts.
If you want to go hear how mixing heavy music and atmosphere is really done, go back and listen to Isis' Panopticon.

This album is like a post-metalcore (yes, new genre) orgasm.

that term's gonna catch on now, and you're going to hate yourself for coining it...
i imagine the journalist that invented the term "nu-metal" was found swinging from the rafters of an old house sometime around 2000.

It was just my thoughts at the time. This album has really grown on me, quite a superb find this band. Awesome stuff.

Good review my friend. Didn't explain much about the music but after hearing DSHS before hand I knew sorta what they're music was like. You came some way to giving good description of the atmosphere and dynamics which are what this band are all about.
As for the screaming I think it adds to there sound and the dynamics they wish to create.

spoonofgrimbo, I was just looking over your reviews, and you have only one review rating an album less than a 4/5.
That's not very many.

what can i say, i don't tend to force myself to listen to something i don't like any more than i have to, and certainly not enough to allow me to review them. i'm thinking i really should though, there's a few albums i own that i bought because of some amazing songs, but disliked most of the rest so... maybe soon! i'm working on a review of a wildhearts b-sides album ("coupled with") atm, but after that i'll do a few negative reviews.

I read an article at Kerrang (had to burn time) about how these guys are not your typical metalcore band or whatever. I think I'll check them out.

i don't see how anyone would really call them metalCORE, as there aren't really any of the punk/hardcore influences like beakdowns etc. present in DSHS's music.

It's the closest resemblance to a genre they have to be honest.
But I think they're just really heavy post metal.

Buyin this now.

I saw this lot again last night, unfortunately it was no where near as good as last time (Vocals way too loud) and their touring buddies Bossk, blew them out of the water;
