vital remains isn't melodic death metal dude..
and this has melodic influences, it's not all straight up brutal, look at goremageddon for that
|

my least favorite tracks are 5 and 6, being the most melodic.. too bad i couldn't include avenious on the recommended tracks

Just joined but had to come and say that I think this album is great. Decent brutal DM with varied-ish vocals.
Nice review as well.

This album is still pretty sick even if it doesn't touch Goremageddon.

is there any album as good as this? In term of intensity and variety?

This album reminds me partly of early cannibal corpse (Pre-1992) and partly of 'Symphonies of Sickness' by carcass (The Album). It never lets up on the brutal guitar work and ferociously technical drums, which is a plus, because on 'The Archaic Abattoir', the band seemed to let their guard down on the second half, making it feel incomplete. One of theri most musically precise, but not quite their best.
