"I can’t tell you anything about the music of Diviner that you haven’t already heard countless times before."
Honestly never heard of Diviner haha. Guess I should?

Diviner is the album name and unrelated to the other Diviner currently in the news bar - serendipitous really

Neat. I loved Wild Beasts so much up until their last album. I'll check this out. Glad it got reviewed and featured or I probably wouldn't have heard it for 100 years.

Let me know what you think dbiz, think this should whet the appetite of most WB fans

Yeah this hits the spot. Better yet, it got me to go through their discography again. Smother is definitely one of the best albums ever, and present tense is also fantastic. Still think "mecca" is their best song overall though

Two dancers is a hard 4.5 as well. Hadn't heard it until just recently

What do you make of Limbo Panto, Gyro? It’s such an eccentric album but I love it, really sets off their great trajectory. I’ve wanted to review it for a long time.
Agreed that Smother is their best, a quintessential art pop album. Wish they’d included the self titled B side as that’s an incredible track, seek it out if you’ve not heard it

This was pretty nice. Very mellow. Really liked the last track best. Will have to revisit for sure. One thing that bugged me (and it is really really really dumb, I know) is that you can listen to a song and know exactly what it is named like 30-60 second in lol.

Speaking of best albums, I feel like Present Tense is their best overall. But, man I love Smother and Two Dancers so much. Limbo is decent, but it's main qualities aren't what drew me to the band to begin with so I rarely play it.

I quite like on the nose track titles, means if I’m listening from my phone I don’t have to whip it out to see what I’m listening to lol
Present Tense is my least favourite pre-Boy King but it’s still excellent. Palace has become one of those songs I can’t listen to due to the emotional attachment.

I just feel like every one of the upbeat tracks are great and the slower songs hit harder for me than most from Smother and Dancers. I can understand your position though. Really, I was surprised that their 4th album is what I consider best. That just isn't usually the case for me. I tend to lean toward earlier releases.

Commenting to come back to this, listened to thirty seconds of a couple songs and it sounded beautiful. Not familiar with his past work, should I check that out first?

I don't think it is necessary to put this in context, tbh. But, I would definitely recommend at least checking Two Dancers, Smother, and Present tense if you like this. A little bit different speed overall, but you'll understand why.

Yeah it seems his vocals are a bit grating for those who haven’t become acclimated through the grooves and rhythm of the full band stuff

eh, i'm not nearly as into limbo, panto. eccentric is definitely the right word. but i added 'vigil', 'his grinning skull', 'brave bulging buoyant clairvoyants' and 'cheerio goodbye' to my favourite wild beasts songs playlist.
