first half of this is one of their better moments and rectifies everything Christfucker pissed into the wind
second half is hahahahahah i no longer understand whether this band are a million miles up their own insides or just taking the piss. should have had the SKA DREAM treatment.

This is my favorite POG. First half is their best tracks and they work well reconfigured into string arrangements. The short film also rules and is the perfect accompaniment to this record. Gonna listen to the end riff on the t/t all day today

Christfucker seemed pretty flat to me in comparison to the debut or even LP 2, despite that one being less than whelming at points also. The songs just felt below par in terms of content, despite being brutal. The production also might not have felt congruent with their sound to me. This feels pretty killer though. Best I've heard from them in a quite a while.

1st half undoubtedly rips. 2nd half should be right up my alley but something about the arrangement and/or mix just kneecaps the whole affair

It's pretty good juxtaposed against the rock formatted tracks, I think. Really enjoying the orchestral version of Where Angels Come to Die

Why though? To me, it felt like they were trying to take on more generic bm qualities.

i think if you don't get it you just don't get it, which is fine, but the entire feeling of the album and the flow of the tracks is incredible for me. it didn't require multiple listens for me to get, it clicked instantly and as a cohesive album experience like none of their stuff before had done. basically their previous albums always kind of just felt like a collection of songs, which i enjoyed, but christfucker was their first one that was like an actual "album experience" for me. sixth circle, sadist, and possession are some of their best tracks in their discog. bed of ash is such a sick mid album break. the horror sounds at the end of dirge with those lyrics? the ending of the crucifixion sounding like nails being driven into wood? fuck.
also, if the ending breakdown of possession doesn't make you want to hurt people, i don't know what to tell you, but it might be my favorite song they have ever written and is def the first one they have done that has made me want to pit at one of their shows...it's just a hard ass album full of really gross and wild riffs. devil music to me just sounds like christfucker songs with better production, so it is also incredibly sick, i just wish there were more songs.

It's not about getting it or not. I've listened to music like this for a very long time, pretty well versed in everything they're mixing. I honestly feel like this release is the most cohesive they've felt and even then not especially so. They've never been the most cohesive songwriters, period. Parts rarely smoothly segue into one another. Plus with Christfucker, I just felt like the drumming and riffs were significantly less interesting on average than they've been before and as disjointed as ever. Also, the production on Christfucker would work better if they were a straight up bm group, or blended bm with raw punk or something like that, but I think it ultimately did their particular stylistic blend a disservice. The soundbites and industrial moments can definitely be cool but some of it feels kinda like window dressing or filler.
My favorite song by them has been Your War since I first heard it. It's just GOOD. And unafraid of just being melodic from time to time, too. From the first few listens though, Devil Music is seeming like their best drop since Let Pain Be Your Guide.
