If my boyfriend enjoyed this, I would find him much more attractive lol.

My girlfriend is a longtime Berserk fan and knew this yonks before I got to it, can relate to this metric

Susumu is a unisex legend, but nowadays he's more famous in Japan for being an anti-vaxxer and covid denier (just like me) I think. Other than that pretty genius fellow!

Lol I remember the goss on this when Beacon dropped. Back then I think he was secretly in step with the last Abe gvmt, who were obvs pressing that covid was a huge deal while furiously denying that anyone was actually catching it
My American neighbour in Japan was anti-vax and bunked out of the jabs despite coming into contact with however many hundreds of schoolkids per day. Has since married into the country despite speaking the worst Japanese I've ever encountered, and I've been wondering ever since if there's a link there
Also Siren was a minor disappointment! Serviceable tunes all round, but doesn't feel nearly as inspired as the releases either side, or even Byakkoya. What's the deal there?

Listening to Jikuu no Mizu rn and it's cool because it sounds like carnival music

He was on drugs when writing Siren. He's more apt when sober. That's the thing about him!

King is such an absolute banger (no irony here)
The 5th paragraph of this review might be my fave Base passage from any of their writings (hazy memory notwithstanding), I’m buying what you’re selling

And yeah I already loved Mother, appropriate 🥰
What a run, blimey!

Banshou no Kiya through Hashi Daiku is an utterly absurd run, and Mother fits it a treat
think the bookends and maybe t/t are the only parts I could live without here - everything else is just sublime

almost instantaneous 4.5 deployed (I already knew it in my heart, just had to make sure before giving myself up after only a few dates).
Yeah, it's an insane run alright. The bookends aren't my faves either rn, certainly not bad, they just feel inessential. I guess the closer is a nice languid chillout conclusion, so I don't dislike it. Both end up being 'overshadowed', more-so than anything else

Is it worth reading up on the lyrics or will it spoil the mystique / experience? Hmm, okay to put it simply… are they good?

I remember when I was 14 or 15 and heard this album and got absurdly furious that people only know Susumu Hirasawa for his Paprika soundtrack. Unfortunately, my boyfriend at the time, who was a bodybuilder and from Bulgaria, stole him from me and turned him into his gym training music idol, then we broke up and I always bitterly associate this album with that jerk. But I know I have to be objective and worship this piece of art nonetheless. Yes Demon, listen to the lyrics, they're sublime.
