awww, i don't think they kill them. They just did the post metal thing first, and better. But only just.

I dunno, I find them to be less boring on a whole. Maybe it's to do with the fact that they did it first?

I find that mood helps with Isis. If you approach one of their albums in the right mood, you will be utterly engrossed by every note. If you do not possess the required mood, it can get boring quick.

Mm that's usually true. I will sometimes find myself forgetting what song I'm listening to with Isis, the tracks will start to run together. In Fiction is the only Isis song I'm always in the mood for actually.
Neurosis manages to keep me "alert" so to speak when listening. if that makes sense

yeah it does, and that's because Isis and Neurosis are stylistically different. Neurosis tend to incorporate more sludge and metal moments, where as Isis adopt a more "post rock" sound and structure, giving them the "boring" attribute.

yeah well neurosis started as a sludge band right?
also i think their rhythms are much more engaging than those of Isis. I think it's to do with their different styles.
I don't know whether Isis' "post-rock" style is the reason I find them less interesting, I think it's because they fall into the trap that many post rock bands tend to fall into, which is the loss of innovation or progression within their music.

yep, they havn't really changed their style much since Oceanic. All their releases have been consistently good, but Oceanic was their only groundbreaking album. They need to start pushing boundaries if they want to stay relevant in the genre, and this is from an Isis fan boy.

This album is awesome! When I first heard the first track, and the singer bellowed out, "through silver in blood," I was in love with this band. Anyone even attempting to find the beautiful side of metal should check these guys out. Especially this album!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
