Eh, everyone has opinions...

Hell, this was one of the first Townsend releases I've ever heard, and I love it. I had Terria, but only started to listening to it heavily after I saw him live and got this.

Hey all the guys here who are not getting this album: Listen to it w/ good speakers or headphones and at least more than once. The first time I listened to this on regular speakers I wasn't too impressed and now everytime I come back to it with my expensive headphones I am blown away.

This album is mixed amazingly with no expense spared on production. If you hear this on a CD and have it equalized correctly you will know what I mean. I love the perfect bursts of bass that surprize you every once in a while.

Devin's use of layering is simply breathtaking. The song A Simple Lullaby is the ultimate example of this. To the experienced ear one will be amazed by this track. OK enough whoring of this album for me. Nice review by the way.

Thanks much.

It seems every time I relisten to this album, I find some layers that I didn't hear before...it's astonishing.

Amazing album.I dont see any future 06 release that could topple it as my album of the year.

I've just noticed another thing;

The duo of Vampolka + Vampira reminds me of Intermission and Jimmy from Tool's "Aenima". Intermission is very similar to Vampolka with circus-like keyboards. Admittedly Vampira doesn't sound much like Jimmy, but the ideas are very very similar..

Is the bassist and keyboards/synths brothers? Just a thought since both last names are Young. Pretty good review, got my vote.
I actually have never heard The Devin Townsend Bands or Strapping Young Lad. But I read somewhere recently that Devin is taking a break from music after they release the next Strapping Young Lad album. He's not going away, he just has a baby on the way, and wants to evaluate himself and see where he's at mentally for a bit.
