Overall, not the hugest fan of this band, but I do like those albums a lot. I'll try this out soon.

This album has the gut wrenching anthems that made me adore Midnight.

Agreed, but far less consistent. A lot of this sort of just ~floats~ by. Unless you strain to hang on to every lyric like me, that is.

This review woefully under-represents the lyrics of this album.

This review is really good though, I was thinking of throwing something together if no other staff did, but even if it's short on lyrical excerpts, I feel like it conveys the emotion just through the personal writing style alone.

I'll agree sowing, lot's of basic chord progressions and very blase musicianship, but I never really was drawn to Frightened Rabbit for those qualities.

I don't know that this is their most personal album, though. The band writes as a group instead of just being a vehicle for Hutchison, and the subject matter is moving to characters and hypotheticals. I was going to write a review that would address the fact that the album approaches depression in quite a hopeful, cyclical way.

Yeah me neither I guess.
I dunno what it is actually. Maybe it's still too new (like I said in my soundoff, this is probably a grower), but something is holding this down.
Still great though...the lyrics to Death Dream made me misty eyed, the part on Get Out where he sings "get out of my heart...she won't) feels so relatable, and Wish I Was Sober is a combination of an emotional gut punch and being catchy as heck.

Death dream is like the best song on this album.
Overall tho it sounds way too close to early coldplay
Edit: no it doesnt. this is great

The middle tracks weren't immediately satisfying to me either, Sowing, but once the melodies really got imbued in my head I realized how well crafted the songs really were. Still Want to Be Here is one of my favorites now, and Break to me feels like a return to the upbeat, fast-paced nature of some tracks of TWOMD. Everything really feels right in place for me, and Dessner's influence really helps the background sounds of the album shine.

Wayfaringstranger: that's actually good to hear, because I'm a huge FR fan and I know I'll keep listening to this. If it's a matter of time for some people, I'll probably fall into that category as well. Not to make it seem like I don't appreciate it now though. It's still quite good.

Agreed that this is probably his best work lyrically.

yeah Sowing, I think you'll like it more with time, but that's how all FR records have been for me
but yeah the lyrics are so on point. I recently went through a shitty break up so this album has really hit the spot lyrically

This album was pretty well everything I wanted it to be, and I know it'll only get better with time.
I love that the songs are fresh right now and I look forward to the day they feel familiar, like they've been in my rotation forever.
