Nice review Fripp. This box set looks really interesting. I plan to at least listen to the added improvisations, and this new(?) version of Earthbound. I don't suppose it's remastered? I remember trying out the original a few times and being majorly turned off by the sound quality, which I know it's notorious for.

"A massive 21 CD, 4 Blu-Ray, and 2 DVD box set and rife with never before seen memorabilia from the forgotten period in Crimson history" Holy Flying Spaghetti Monster - I've always found "Islands" underrated, but I can't imagine ever having the time or funds to justify acquiring a set this massive. But I suppose there's a market of King Crimson super fans who will eat it right up.

it's an extended version with added songs from the same soundboards as the original. A remaster would pretty much be impossible and wouldn't work for Earthbound because of its grimy, lo-fi qualities.

However, the concerts the album is sourced from is also on the box set. Funny enough, the concerts are in good quality, but were mixed in the red by whoever was operating the board that night, hence the lower quality.

I should add, a major reason for me acquiring this set was because I was unable to see them Friday night in Cleveland for various reasons (they played at a venue that doesn't allow anyone under 21; it was the night after Black Friday; and I had to work). $220 is about what I would've spent had I been able to go, so it serves as a very nice consolation prize.

Guess I'll have to give Earthbound more tries and concentrate on the new compositions, without getting distracted by the sound quality.

Speaking of which, if you're interested, look through the contents of this box and tell me which recordings you are interested in. I can send it to you through dropbox like I did with the Sylvian demos.

also noticed on the first "Unidentified Show" the crowd keeps requesting the band do "Lizard", notably on the encore, which was a ten minute reading of "The Letters", which may honestly now be my favorite version of the song.

No, it's from one of the two shows DGM management recently found. They've been unable to figure out the source of the shows, although some have narrowed it down to the end of a U.S. leg due to stange banter by Fripp, if I recall correctly. Considering "The Letters" is still in the set, it's probably sometime in Nov/Dec 1971.

I do believe you'll love the Summit show, which was from a day before the 3/13 concert. Lots of improv and a cover of Pharoah Sanders' "The Creator Has a Master Plan" - which I've heard was put out in complete form on the blu-ray (more investigating to come)
