"The disparity between reception here and on RYM is mind boggling."
and? this happens often. there are less than 100 active users on sput lol

I think there’s more than 100, if you count everyone’s various alts

Not only that, but it's not even a huge disparity. If you want to see a massive contrast, look at the Sput rating vs. the Metacritic average. That's some wild shit, lol

I mean, yeah. It’s Queen B doing a country album. Mainstream publications were always going to love it.
Should I actually listen to this mf and formulate my own opinion?

imagine comparing our wonderful community full of self diagnosed autists with one that thought mr morale and the big floppers was a top ten release of the year.

Interesting question, actually. I would like to know if there's some kind of statistical or commercial advantage or if it is just more or less trendy to release epics now.
Like, YouTube video length is advantageous to creators on that platform. Is there an equivalent in music streaming? No idea. I guess it may just be popular to make big, grand albums.

more songs more streams

The trick is to do what some do where they have one, 1 hour song that constitutes the whole album. Make people scrub for the singles.

"more songs more streams"
This. It's the same reason Drake puts out 90-minute double albums. Release some bloated monstrosity, let the fans pick out the big hits, and hike up those streaming numbers

it's so nice going back to stuff from the 70s where almost everything was under 45 minutes

crappy prog rock is best endured in 33 min chunks agreed

There's probably some difference in the motivations of a mainstream pop artist vs... like Big Thief releasing similarly long albums. Maybe not. All the same, I don't dislike them per se.
A commercial trend I absolutely dislike is distribution song exclusives. Get that shit out of this fucking existence please, kindly, thanks, don't let the door kick you on the way out.
