Its aggressive Converge on auto pilot, but still this is great.

Material on that split rules, has a real old school metalcore feel to it. Band dislikes that era an has talked shit about those songs on multiple different occasions when I've seen them live, but it's a great release.

I mean, if you compare this to the two that came after it it's basically just an infinitely weaker version of them but you have a good point

I gotta say, I jammed YFM about 5 times now, and this album hits me way harder. Much more memorable tracks, and generally more passionate stuff to me. Heartless on YFM is still unbeatable though. Maybe one of my new fav. converge tracks

It's tough for me to compare ATF to anything they've done because even though it's inherently Converge at its core, it had a lot of outside hands from collaborating musicians and AWLWLB feels much more like a coherent follow-up to you fail me than anything else. While this is not my favorite release by Converge, I don't think anything else they've done sounds like it. A unique release in their discography for sure that seems to get stuck with the "above average" tag very often.

I dunno, the only song here that comes close to anything on yfm is grim heart/black rose

This sounds a lot like axe to fall man, even with all the guest musicians taken into consideration

I absolutely agree, two different records, coming from two different directions. They follow each other, so I understand why people may compare the two.

"you're all should check their split with Agoraphobic Nosebleed it's awesome and little better than this tbh"

I was "meh" about this album for a long time, even though I'm a big Converge fan to the point of obsession, but it finally clicked and holy shit is it good.

sweet lelle. I went into this album with low expectations because of seemingly everyone's "worst of converge" consensus, but found it to be one of my favorites.
You Fail Me is the one I really don't get but everyone swears I'm retarded so who the fuck knows.

@MadMikeLove You Fail Me rules because of its atmosphere and lyrical content. It's also got some of the very best Converge songs (Last Light, Drop Out, Heartless, You Fail Me, Eagles Become Vultures). It's much more bare bones than some of their other releases.
I always found the vocals to be the hardest part to get into on this record. Jake sounds really abrasive here, and though he did on Jane Doe too, it served an emotional purpose there, while here he mostly just sounds noisy.
