this one's interesting for sure, but I don't think any tracks stand out as brilliant. Pray for Rain and Paradise Circus grab me as the the best songs, but overall the album is treading water, theres no significant awesome moments where the songs pay off instead they meander for a while then trail off

I'm liking some of the older style songs the most thus far. Pray for Rain, Girl I Love You, Rush Minute, and Atlas Air.
The others are growin on me.

I'd like them to keep going especially since they're becoming one of my favorite bands now. Listened to this earlier today and had the same experience I always have with this. After the first four or five songs I'm thinking its by far the worst they've done but then the next five or so completely turn it around for me. Overall, I think the good songs outweigh the bad ones, I think I counted 6 good to great, 2 average, and 2 really bad ones. A pretty enjoyable album and a solid release, albeit one of their weaker ones.

Flat of the blade and psyche are just okay for me but not bad, splitting the atom and pray for rain are the two that irk me though. I was kind of suprised to see how much some people liked it as the opener although its not as bad as splitting the atom. As a whole I really like the album though.

Hi. I'm new here. I'm also very new to Massive Attack. I recently bought Heligoland as a spur-of-the-moment act. I love Heligoland, which made me go and buyMezzanine. I like very much both of these albums, but to me (and I KNOW I'm in a minority here), I think I prefer Heligoland. I give it a 4.5 since Splitting the Atom is definitely not my cup of tea. I love Saturday Comes Slow, btw. I like Nick's review, although I may not agree with him 100%.

It's a grower, indeed, as Mezzanine also is. To me, Babel and Splitting the atom are the lowest points in Heligoland, though the former I dig. All the other songs are beautiful.

I concur with you, silentpotato ...and splitting the atom is starting to sink in
[On a related note to my initial comment, yesterday while driving my car all of Mezzanine fell into place. It was like an epiphany or something. It just clicked after several listenings in different environments. Somehow, my car seems to be the best place for this.]
