I haven't listened to these guys in years but around the time of Messengers and Constellations they were one of my favorite bands. I'll have to check it out if they're not writing boring formulaic stuff again.

Honestly this isn't going to change your opinion about the band. If you like them, you'll like this and vice versa. That being said this might appeal more towards fans of Constellations.

Chevelle plays power chords, ABR plays riffs that require actual skill. I don't think they warrant a comparison really

Aside from shoegaze's comment, I'm pretty sure they meant in terms of their consistency

I guess that makes more sense. But still, ABR has a very high level of musicianship and technical skill for the genre where as Chevelle is really stripped down and simple. It's almost like comparing Van Halen with Nirvana or something, it's just weird.

If we're talking about technical skill, no they really can't be compared. But you can always compare quality of music and/or songwriting abilities.

The band peaked with Constellations and they just have not been able to recapture the same spark. It's a tough situation because they're really talented and they still make excellent and consistent music but they crafted an untoppable record too early in their career. Chevelle did the same thing with Wonder What's Next so I can actually see the comparison in that sense.

Generations was really fun until that stupid ass interlude kicked in. These guys are still shitting the bed with these 5-6 minute songs that crap out during the second half. They need to shorten their songs.

This is a 54 minute album and yet almost all of it blends together in this giant stew of samey riffs and shitty interludes. These guys would benefit from shortening their songs.
