However, "Peoria" from the original "Earthbound" originated from a performance of "Groon" from the same date at...Peoria.
"Earthbound" itself had its beginnings in improv, both in and outside of "Groon", which can be found in the box.

Didn't see that second comment 'til just now. Cool to have more versions of Groon, since I wondered where it came from after coming across it as a bonus track on Poseidon.

"Groon" was practically a centerpiece of the 1971/1972 band, and was a testing ground for new pieces, although it really gave Mel Collins and Ian Wallace, in particular, their time in the spotlight.

I, too, love Islands. I think it’s completely underrated.

Often regarded as the weakest era in King Crimson lore
Sorry but where? Allmusic.com? hahaha
Great read by the way. Love all of Robert Fripp's work.

To elaborate for you, Wiz, Fripp himself disowned Lizard and Islands, while the fanbase shrugged off Poseidon as a mere copy of Court. If you look at the threads of Poseidon and Islands, it will be obvious some view it as inferior to what came before and after these three albums.

Poseidon is interesting because the first half is basically alternate versions of Court, but not in a bad way since, for example, Cadence and Cascade and Poseidon are two of the band's best songs. Then Cat Food and The Devil's Triangle are the beginning of the new KC, more jazzy and improvisational.

Thank you for that. I come across a lot of "gathered opinions" on the internet and I just question where some of this info is coming from.

The stuff's had a recent resurgence in the past five years, to a point where Fripp has come to appreciate it, despite once proclaiming fans of Lizard to be "weird".
|

Idk why you would deny that King Crimson fans in general are "weird" haha. I mean...Robert Fripp is a nerdy English gentleman with perfectly circular glass who blasts heavy riffs while sitting on a stool.

yes this is quite *nerdy* methinks, so nerdy he fell into the trap of 80s fashion

haha that picture is gold

In the Wake of Poseidon is a better version of ItCotCK.
The band has been playing stuff from Lizard and Islands on their recent tours, so Fripp must not still disown that stuff. They were incredible when I saw them a month ago.

Another song Boz tore up on the live circuit
seriously, what a shame it didn't work out but we got Wetton, Bruford and Cross from it. Lest we forget the presence Muir brought to the band.
