"Lake Song just feels very tired to me. I feel that they have done that same song better at least a few times prior."
That's entirely possible, but to me it feels like a more mature January Hymn. That part where he sings "Set the ghost of your two footprints that they might haunt me when you're gone" gives me a little chill every time.

That is an impressive line both in subtance and delivery. There are no throwaway tunes here. Very solid throughout.

The more I listen to the album, the more I think the only song that drags a bit is Anti-Summersong, and the
more I love the three ballads that close the album. Mistral and 12/17/12 are especially moving, albeit they
took a lot of time to grow on me properly.

Mistral was pretty immediate for me, but ya 12/17/12 has definitely grown on me. album is definitely a grower.

Probably their second most accessible album behind The King Is Dead and their most relatable. Not sure quite how I feel yet but I'm enjoying it. Nothing has wowed me yet but I've enjoyed every track in one way or another.

This is the best review I've seen for an 2015 album so far. Well done

This is definitely not losing its charm over time. It might actually be gaining some in its subtleties.

Saw the Decemberists last week and they opened with "The Singer Addresses His Audience." It was interesting to hear Meloy sing the lyrics acapella to the audience--almost seemed like a love letter.

Re-entered my listening habits a few days ago, album is immaculate up to and including The Wrong Year. Agreed about the comments about Mistral and 12/17/12 as well, beautiful tracks.

This is so gorgeous, it's def. their most mature album to date. If Sufjan Stevens wasn't a fucking folk virtuoso, this album would have a legit shot at the AOTY conversation.
|
| |
Maybe not AOTY for me as the mid-end is too inconsistent, but there's that block between Make You Better and The Wrong Year which I'm absolutely in love with at the moment. Still haven't gotten round to listening to the Sufjan Stevens record, I expect I will at some point though. There so much on my radar right now it's ridiculous.
