Empire is...flaky. This is much more enjoyable front-to-back. Probably their heaviest album, too.

This one isn't very original, but the songwriting and production is awesome, well worth the listen. Also Revelation is one of their best songs.

God this album riffs so hard. "Hell is Thy Home" should have been so bad with a title like that but it kicks ass.

My headcanon of this album is that it's about growing up in a religious cult and then realizing how it's full of corruption and darkness, but being unable to escape physically or spiritually.
"My Temple" and "Fight" are about having unwavering belief, then "Strange World" describes an uprising that brings it into question. In "Hell Is Thy Home" the narrator can no longer tell the difference between good and evil, and "Blood Religion" describes the cult itself.
In "Condemned to Hell" he's sure the end is coming, "Spiritual Dictator" and "Majesty"'describe the cult leader and his attempts to regain control. "How Long" is about the protagonist trying to reconcile having no clear path, and finally "Revelation" describes his escape and spiritual awakening.

Interesting theory, I never really saw much of a connection or concept behind this. Blood Religion is about vampires iirc

that's the gist, aye. I'm definitely assigning a plot to this that wasn't intended (it's more a thematic album than a story one) but I felt compelled to share anyway.

ye, some great deep cuts on this one. Revelation and Spiritual Dictator won't ever show up in a setlist and that's really a shame.
