The last three tracks are a massive step down from the rest of the album.

You've heard one JP song, you've heard 'em all.

I think you're confusing them with AC/DC.

this has no business being as good as it is

firepower being really good is one thing, but to do it two times in a row with most of the band entering their 70s is really something.

maiden and metallica still (imo) make really good music too but those bands both "sound" old in a way, like you can feel their age in the songwriting and performance. this album sounds like it could've followed up painkiller

Seems like them streaming the deluxe edition without identifying the bonus tracks might have been a mistake since it's really confusing people. Lots of "great until the last three tracks" comments.

Yeah, these deluxe editions usually have some indicator as to which songs are bonus tracks on streaming. Even if it's something as small as adding (bonus track) at the end of the title. But this album doesn't do that, so the tracklist just looks like it would for a standard edition

Waitwaitwait they use the word "memes" in a metal song fairly thoughtfully and without cringe???

That's super impressive omg

[2] it only works because Halford.

he's like your uncle that always remembers to comment "Happy birthday" on your latest instagram post even if it's unrelated to your recent birthday.

Massive upgrade on lead guitar. Don't really listen to JP other than oldies hitting rotation, but the solo on gates of hell, as a guitar player is absolute heaven. Melodically, it is top tier. It sounds like an old band and a new age highly proficient guitarist did a duo - and it kicks absolute ass.
Overall, album is extremely strong. Sure, the style sounds the same but you could say that about tons of great bands. They aren't a prog band.

Yeah, Richie's really been stepping up with these last few albums. He was already solid on Redeemer, but his work on Firepower and this is on another level

Homeboy made a metal album with a 90 year old Christopher Lee, AND helped Priest initiate one of the most impressive comebacks in metal history. Dude is living his BEST life.

Yeah those bonus tracks are on the level of their typical filler. Otherwise, this front-to-back slays. Easy 4, maybe more.

Proud of Richie. Halford has never been my favorite, like the band itself, but there's no fucking question he's the GOAT.

"Homeboy made a metal album with a 90 year old Christopher Lee"

Oh yeah, I forgot he played on that! Just the fact that Christopher Lee put out a metal album in his 90s is incredible in its own right too
