this is not grower music at all it’s super immediate

Totally disagree, I feel there’s a lot of depth here I won’t absorb unless I really focus on the lyrics. Tbh I wish she had chosen a less oblique/more consistently plainspoken lyrical style, or used more consistently stripped back music or less rapid vocal delivery because I have a hard time processing what she’s singing a lot of the time. Honestly I don’t terribly like her vocal style on this or Saint Cloud, which is weird because I typically do like stuff like this a lot. There are a few pretty immediate songs but most of this hasn’t clicked with me yet.

nothing on here hits like "Fire" or "Can't Do Much"

the music here feels pretty stripped back, both in instrumentals and especially the song structures. it’s very basic but works very well. this is good popcorn country pop

Right Back To It, Lone Star Lake, and The Wolves are my top jams from this at the moment

Wow “Crowbar”’s lyrics are incredible.
maybe it’s easier to be afraid - drenched in tragedy, man-made
my compass is an antique - but if i’m not back soon, don’t come looking for me…

lyrics seem uniformly awesome throughout her whole discog

Yeah her lyrics are weird. I always start out thinking they sound like a bunch of disjointed ideas, but time always reveals them to be either connected or at the very least containing amazing one-liners. Almost every song is like that, too.

That’s pretty much exactly the experience I’m having with this. Admittedly I never dug as much into the lyrics of other stuff I’ve heard by her, perhaps I need to do some diligence…

Legit though a lot of these lyrics are next-level shit. Like:
you let me fill every room
wax poetic & presume
your principles ripen into
a fragile tomb, watch it split in two
Nary a word wasted.

Y’all, I think we are witnessing a modern Car Wheels on a Gravel Road here.
