Nice 5 bro!

The second half of this is flawless (Lone Star Lake on), currently trying to digest the first half. Have only listened on drives to and from work, going to sit down with it properly now that I’m on my days off

Side note: Lenderman’s backing vocals throughout this are incredible and such a perfect fit for her voice

Yeah his vox (and guitar playing) here are sublime.

“The Wolves” has some great Crazy Horse vibes.

Man the title track is one of the best closers I’ve heard in a long time.
i held it like a penny i found
it might bring me something, it might weigh me down
you got every excuse but it’s an eerie sound
when that siren blows, rings out all over town
when that siren blows, rings out all over town…

I love the layered vocals in the refrain at the end of that track

The opener and ‘Bored’ have the most life for me, still struggling to differentiate the rest

That's how both this and Saint Cloud started for me. Both have revealed themselves in time, but I will admit that it requires the listener going out of their way to wait for things to click/grow.

Hell, when I reviewed this at a 3.6 I had a week's worth of listening under my belt and it's still grown since then

I think this just might be too standard country pop for me, I like it enough though

I certainly understand, but I think you're going to end up enjoying this a lot more fairly soon ;-)
Unless this is just a grower for me, and I'm projecting/assuming it'll be the same for everyone

it grew for me but I found it pretty immediate

I can't hear our song on the radio,
Without a clear recollection of the touch-and-go

"Your principles ripen into a fragile tomb" is my favorite line on the whole album

With more listens, I feel like this is a consistently enjoyable album with very strong highlights (some of the best songs of the year so far). It's also a record which seems ideal for settings like summer days or evenings on the porch drinking a beer, so I expect I'll come back to it a lot in the coming months. All that said, I still think it doesn't hold up to Saint Cloud's high bar, but few releases would.

100% agreed with all of that, including that Saint Cloud is better

I think pretty much every song on this is better than pretty much every song on Saint Cloud

Saint Cloud is like her 5th best album bros lmao. I mean it rules but never knew people were so blown away by it. American Weekend is the best and its not even particularly close tbh.

I love her whole discog to varying degrees - my ranking would probably be:
1) Saint Cloud
2) American Weekend
3) Cerulean Salt
4) Ivy Tripp
5) Tigers Blood
6) Out In The Storm
