I just downloaded this album onto my phone and starting playing it as I walked down the seemingly deserted streets of Center City. I felt mellow as the puffy flakes fell upon my lashes, but as the album progressed, I began to feel invigorated and energized. It turns out that Late Night Delight was the pleasure I needed to indulge in this Tuesday morning.
I listened to the album more than eight times over throughout Tuesday. Whether I was in the dining hall, in class, or just shuffling down the snow-dusted sidewalks, I found that this album was perfect for any time of the day.
The first half of the album is produced by Luxury Elite, an artist that I have been following devoutly for a few months now (Lux’s Twitter feed is a great treat!), as I will be reviewing two more of their tapes within the upcoming write-ups. LND opens with “All Night”, a song that makes you feel that you are just tuning into a radio station in the later hours of the evening. Lux’s tunes give off soulful and chill vibes, and reminds me of the instance in which I took a Lyft in the pitch-dark after seeing Hail, Caesar! and the driver had on some really smooth R&B. It was a lovely way to end that night. Lux’s part of the release sends the listener into a sleek convertible in a high-end district of a city, with the cool wind in your hair and the sounds of the city melding with your radio.
Saint Pepsi’s (Skylar Spence) half of LND, however, gives off a seemingly different atmospheric influence. “Mac Tonight” is upbeat and energetic, embracing a carefree lifestyle. With Saint Pepsi, you are at a party, or a nightclub, jamming to the uplifting and pulsating beats of the heavy bass and cymbals. The album closes out with my favorite track of any album of this genre—“Enjoy Yourself”. Incidentally, I came across this track on Facebook, which became the gateway drug to discovering the genre more in-depth. The link was of a groovy and loveable man with a crescent moon for a head, sitting at the piano atop a cloud and singing his heart out. After skimming the surface of McDonald’s advertising history, I discovered the original television spots and was instantly hooked. Saint Pepsi’s side of the collaboration is jam-packed with positive vibes and the will to have fun.
