Review Summary: Fields of Rape are a California based black metal band that eschew all modern traits and trends in favor for a brief, savage assault.
Like a Wehrmacht blitzkrieg descending upon on a unsuspecting foe, Fields of Rape emerge from the eerily dense fog and batter you to a bloody pulp with a blistering black metal assault that last precisely seven minutes. Then, as suddenly as they appeared, they retreat back into the darkness leaving your body broken and bloody for the wolves to feast upon.
Fields of Rape are a California based black metal band that eschew all modern traits and trends in favor for a brief, savage assault, utilizing minute long song lengths and vast amounts of distortion to kick your skull in. Featuring members of SS Hammers, Fields of Rape play a raw, punk influenced type of raw black metal that is similar to but not quite as extensively developed as the former band.
"War In The Homeland" is the first official release from the band. Featuring five tracks and covering just seven minutes of material, this is indeed a blitzkrieg. Combining searing riffage, howling yells and militaristic percussion, Fields of Rape embrace the perverse, primitive sounds of the early second wave of black metal. As a raw black metal demo this is surprisingly catchy. The riffs are heavy and in your face, the percussion is absolutely punishing and the infectious rhythms provide stability and structure to the abrasive music. Best of all is the defiant aura of Fields of Rape. Their attitude gives this quaint demo personality and charm, well, as much charm and personality a Reichsführer can have before kicking your teeth down your throat.
Fields of Rape is a young up and coming U.S black metal band that people should definitely check out. War In The Homeland is a great demo for every legitimate black metal enthusiast out there. Although quite unpolished(if you're a lightweight) from a production standpoint, Fields of Rape's talent is undeniable. If you don't like the raw grittiness of this band then you have no ***ing business listening to black metal in the first place.
