3.5 great | manosg EMERITUS | April 30th 20 | Enjoying Frank Marino's work has to do a lot with how one feels about his similarity to Jimi Hendrix and more specifically his mellower/more psychedelic side. I don't have any issues with it, which is one of the reasons that I enjoy Strange Universe so much. Putting that aside, Mahogany Rush's third LP is a sweet psychedelic trip which, as Robbit noted, works better as a whole rather than jamming individual songs.

4.0 excellent | Robbit | July 8th 16 | STRANGE UNIVERSE is a swirling and energized collection of songs that seem more potent when taken as a whole, rather than judging it by it's individual tracks. Each song IS quite impressive, but Marino's admiration for Jimi Hendrix pervades this album so thoroughly that its difficult to discern how many of these ideas can be called truly original. I've felt conflicted about this album for that very reason. However, I'm decided to make peace with STRANGE UNIVERSE and acknowledge that it is Hendrix re-imagined. The playing here is undeniably top notch and have come to realize this is a very loving and well executed tribute to a true guitar master.
