Generally, I'm not a Dashboard Confessional fan. But surprisingly enough, I quite enjoy this EP. It's a lot different from some of their other, simpler music. "Summers Kiss" is more complex, and over-all better written material. I will not listen to any other Dashboard albums, only Summers Kiss.

One of the components that make this EP great, is the drumming. I have to say, I was quite impressed with Mike Marsh's drumming. It seems much more complex than a lot of bands out there right now who just seeem to stick with one simple drum beat.

For the most part, (as most of you likely already know) it's basically an acoustic/drum/bass album. Except for the last minute or so of "Ender Will Save Us All" where Chris busts out the electric and for the first time on this album showing us that yes, it's not always sappy acoustic rock.

This is classic Dashboard Confessional material. All four songs on this EP are equally as great as the last. I'm sure some people are skeptical about listening to Dashboard, but I seriously suggest you check this EP out if you're into stuff like Elliott Smith etc. (singer/songwriting stuff). They're well written songs, which are a joy to listen to.

The album's alright I guess. It's basically just the better songs off of the Swiss Army Romance played with a full band sound. In relative terms, it's "less emo" than the material that came before it, which is good since the songs carry a bit more diversity. I definitely agree though that the songs are well written. Overall, I'd probably give this about a 3 at best.

Your review was nice and short, which I like. There's really no point in over analyzing this EP.

Thanks.

Yeah, I like the fuller sound. Most of Carabba's solo acoustic stuff is crap.

Nice review, but I thought you would know enough to put this in a genre other than "emo."

I didn't put it here. Apparently when you write a review now, you don't get to choose which section it goes in. It just automatically gets placed.

Chris Carrabba truly turns Dashboard Confessional into a full band on the 'Summers Kiss EP'. Interestingly taking 4 tracks from his one-man debut LP - and none from its follow-up - these are truly re-imagined works. The extra instrumentation does give Carrabba's emotional lyrics some extra bite on occasions, and also some much needed variety. Closer 'Ender Will Save Us All' is especially fascinating; at times gentler than the original version, before climaxing with distorted electric guitar & near screaming! Only opener 'Living In Your Letters' gets a little lost in translation. Recommended Tracks: Ender Will Save Us All & The Sharp Hint of New Tears.
