4.0 excellent | Lividcat | May 25th 07 | Opinion on this EP will vary greatly. Some will find it to be vulgar trash, while others will see it is a lascivious and brutal attack on mainsteam Rap and Hip-Hop. Sex Funeral are Damaged Childhood & Impotent Fetus, a rap duo, and Ahab Lovegrove, their producer. The EP has pretty low production values, often sounding as though it was created on GarageBand or some variant, but the ideas are sound. Each song melds and bends genres, with highlight tracks "Create A Little Lube" (fusing gospel/motown with dirty rap) and "D.I.L.F." (a Dad I'd Like to F*ck) which joins subtle strings with a fiesty latin chorus, overlaid with hip hop beats and rap. However the finest track on the album in undeniably the last track "Hot In The Dark" which includes spy guitars, acoustic bass, spacey synth patters, and a witty piano outtro, before burning up the cd player with a searing vocal solo from collaborator Sophia Christopher. Now to say that these rappers have dirty minds is probably an understatement, with most tracks containing some pretty unsettling images, usually sexually, but this (after a few listens to get the catchy choruses in your head) only adds to the parody element of Sex Funeral. Overall, in my opinon, a fresh, craftily written and performed, and vulgar parody album. 4 stars.
