Review Summary: One Of The Most Underrated Albums Of 2006... These Guys Didn't Need Luck.

I hold a soft spot for pop-punk bands that stray below the radar. Bands that are so unpopular, they make bands like 'All Time Low' look like god. Even sadder is when I see that their fan-base is as tiny as the arms of a t-rex, they have virtually no merchandise. Few fans. They aren't remembered.

Better Luck Next Time are one such band. Their début is a perfect example of the genre, nothing legendary but still something special against the competition in the field.
In fact if 'Third Time's A Charm' was given a shot in the media world, critics might swoon at the vocals of Brian Bortoli as he kickstarts the record with impressive speed.
The vocals are almost incomprehensible at times through 'Carry On' But the fact he can maintain this speed without stuttering or gasping for air is quite impressive.
The lyrics are nothing to shout about - they revolve around heartbreak and missed chances with the opposite sex, Like most Pop-Punk acts the choruses are incredibly catchy. The drums are fast and the guitar swings vibrantly through each song.
'Tommorow, maybe' is a standout track mostly for it's message and beautiful (albeit short) piano segment, we've all been there. None of us are immune from rejection or mistakes and this song shows that perfectly.

Of course there are weak points such as the slightly lacking lyrics, they're immature and nothing thought up by genius minds. Some songs blur together because Brian shows no interest in higher or lower pitches. His comfort zone is a joy to listen to but it can wear thin within thirty minutes. While I can't fault the drums or guitar work - they also blend together at times because of their fast paced nature.
Thankfully, no heartfelt, slow ballads are present here.. I can't see this band performing one too well.

If you've ever had your heart torn out by a girl, waited outside in the rain for that cold bitch or beaten yourself up over missed opportunities then this is the soundtrack to your summer. Blasting 'Shoebox Memories' out the window is a refreshing feeling, especially when driving down the highway at top speeds, screeching like a little kid as the sun sets in the distance.
You don't need her or anyone.
This Album is simple fun, enjoy it for what it is.
You want her back? Then I suppose Third Time's A Charm.

Hey since these guys are criminally underrated no attention to the review as well it seems. Well I gotta say this is great as far as pop punk goes. Just really feel good music that does maintain that melancholic feel too it. I still don't remember how I found these guys. It does make me sad they didn't have get more attention. Oh well, they gave us some great music.
