This album sounds way better in 30 second samples on iTunes. The main reason for this is because the songs are pretty much the same 30 second bits repeated over and over, with minimal change, for upwards of five minutes. Sure, it's funky, and sure, the horn players and bassist are fantastic, and sure, the drums that show up sometimes always provide some nice beat, but it never becomes anything. The songs (except for the Joanna Newsom cover and Sarvodaya) are static, and that's not enough in a genre where repetition could mean the death of the band.
