3.0 good | TheWatchman71 | January 3rd 22 | Matthew Halsall is probably my favourite contemporary jazz musician so it pains me to say that this album left me feeling very unsatisfied. I guess he went for a very particular atmosphere with this one; it feels very concentrated with little in the way of his usual explorative and spiritual music. the inclusion of vocalists also sets this album apart from his others. There is an emphasis on the drums which lay down some gentle rolling beats, which gives the album more of a soul feel than jazz. Good in its own way but not really for me unfortunately.
