Review Summary: Bollywood meets Trip-Hop

Every hour, approximately ten hours of music is collectively released by the thousands (if not millions) of artists who create their work across the globe. Like thousands of other independent artists on Bandcamp, Moth Equals presence is tiny, a drop in the musical ocean; non of his albums have been reviewed, and his Facebook page has picked up a few thousand likes. The generic Bandcamp artist. However, Moth isn't the typical mediocracy as is the case with the vast majority of these artists, and has easily produced my favourite Trip-Hop album so far this year.

Cordiform is the first track and quickly the eerie Trip-Hop beats blend into a Bollywood inspired vocal section and drums which erupt the throbbing base. It is clear that this isn't your run-of-the-mill Trip-Hop album, but isntead is, according to Moth, "a rich blend of Bollywood, blues, yé-yé and opera, stirred into a hot mix of electronic music leaning towards trip hop and dubstep". All of the tracks on the album consist of the same style of music and the transitions between tracks are seamless, yet Moth Equals is able to make each track brilliant in its own right. Each song blends together, and the instrumentation is organic and authentic which is especially impressive considering Moth is able to blend these with classic dubstep basslines. There are no 'filler' tracks, and not only can do I struggle finding a 'least favourite' track, its equally challenging to identify a favourite as in my opinion they each play different roles throughout the album.

Notable tracks include "जीव", "The Heavens Opened and Closed", "If it Keeps on Raining" & "Aim to Get Caught".

In summary, I would describe the album as soothing, psychedelic and catchy start to finish . Compared to his previous work, I feel that Moth Equals is becoming a master of this style, and I can only dream of what the future holds for his musical enterprise.
