4.5 superb | musichub | March 28th 22 | This collection of 12 violin concertos was described by one scholar as the most important instrumental work of the entire eighteenth century. It's hard to disagree, even if it may not be Vivaldi's creative high point. The melodies, as is typical with his work, fly off the page here - no. 5 was the most popular of the era for its speedy virtuosity, no. 6 the most popular today due to its focus on high-register melodies.
