Review Summary: Take a walk with me, and we'll see what we can find.. Ambient and folk go together like peanut butter and jelly; the instrumental stylings usually complement each other to a point where it becomes a very flexible genre to create mellow and atmospheric music. However, when you add in competent songwriting to the mix, it ups the ante to a new level. Meus’s debut EP “Downpour” is a well composed folk EP brimming with bright, colorful melodies and plenty of calming moments.
Center stage here throughout the EP is the fretwork; acoustics fly in a nicely produced display of picking in well written guitar portions throughout the release. Ironically, it’s when the tempo takes a slower turn that the best levels of ambiance are achieved, as shown in the title track / EP highlight with its slower arrangement juxtaposed with deftly placed strings. Unfortunately, the title track and “Amethyst” are the only times the strings are notably included, and it’s a shame as they add another dimension to the tracks. You won’t necessarily notice this as the guitar arrangements are more than enough to satisfy. The production does this EP a lot of favors, especially due to the finely mixed echoing acoustics that help bridge together musical passages between melodies.
Overall this is a great first effort; if Meus continues to utilize their penchant for nice guitar melodies, and increases the ambiance by utilizing more strings, soundscapes, etc., then they could possibly create one of the most relaxing efforts of the year; but for now, we have this short and sweet first effort.

| | | this is a good little review
maybe a little bit /tiny/ and nondescript about the music, but I personally enjoy snappy reviews.
anyway, this sounds peachy. but I've been phasing ambient acoustic out of my diet for a little bit. still, I'll probably check it out after work

No worries at all dude, I seriously love the title track most of all. The strings and guitar are melded perfectly.
| | | Not bad, pos'd. I like short reviews, however I think you could have gone a little deeper and possible made the review flow better, it seems kind of static. Still not bad but it could be improved.

A little barebones, but that's nothing to sneeze at. Good job, @ButteryBiscuitBass.

Hey man, I've been listening to this at work this week, and it's definitely got some really solid ideas. It's hard to pick a favorite song, that synth melody in the beginning of Downpour reminds me of Tenhi. Shadows has the most neofolk vibe (kinda Vali) and evokes the most emotion.
You got plans to write and record another album? This one was good, and I feel like you have the potential to release some really great music!

Gave it the first of many listens and it sounds great man! A step up in song crafting and playing. Very enjoable, still really digging the Witching Hour. It's my favorite song you've written as of right now, but there are some really beautiful melodies and great ideas on the new one.
