It's really a beautiful thing when an album can be intimate and human without even saying a word. A State Of Becoming is a delicately-crafted ambient techno/field recording collaboration that accomplishes just that despite being homogenous in nature. Lav and Purl had only met a small number of times before this album's creation, but it was Lav's very high-quality field recordings that piqued the interest of Purl, who sprinkles airy synths and very light beats over top of the summery ambiance. It's quite interesting too hear how synergetic the two are; it's almost as if they've known each other all their lives. All this said, this is a very long album, and it's minimalistic nature lends itself to some moments of idleness that are exacerbated due to this length, not to mention that the songs all follow the same formula. It's not perfect, not by a long shot, but it's still a worthwhile collaboration and some of the more relaxing music released in this young year.
